    Log ins are a pain

I don't understand why we have to log in after 2 hours. I have contributed to many sites where the site recognized me and I did not have to continually log in.

This is a pain. How about it?

Certainly there is a logical explanation for us less technical folks
It is a pain for sure. You are not logged in pops up every time I just have the urge to post a reply.

I have another problem: The log-in never remembers me, although I check the "remember me" button. It may be a bug.

Its become very frustrating. I used to participate every day and comment often. Whatever the benefit is for this cumbersome process, its never been clear and reflects a problem that was never apparent before. I hope some one is pleased, I'm not.

The system will automatically log you out after two hours of non-usage, even if it looks like you're still logged in. It's a built-in security measure with the software.

I've been on other sites (mostly shopping sites) that will also log you out after a certain amount of time of non-activity.

It is confusing, though, by having the "remember me" box right underneath the log-in. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

I'll talk to our webmaster about this problem, and get back to all of you! Hang in!

I just spoke to our webmaster about the "remember me" box, and she's going to look into whether or not she can remove it (it may be hardwired into the software itself.).

You will, however, still have to log out once you leave the site, and log back in when you return. That has never changed since I joined MSWORLD 15 years ago.

Hang in while our webmaster looks into the
            "remember me" issue.

              I have an additional problem.

I used to change my password every time that I logged on. The system would show that I was logged on (it would welcome MamaBug), but when I tried to reply to anything, it would say that I wasn't logged on. If I got a new password, it would work.

Well, in more recent months, perhaps over the whole past year, I have discovered that if I log on once, log off, and log on a second time, that then I am "really" logged on. Being welcomed on the log on page is not enough.

Although I have found something that works, Jazz's title for this thread is also accurate for me: Log-ins are a pain.

There is no other site that I have to log in, log off and log in, in order to "really" be logged in. Must also be a glitch.

                Faith,

What you describe is exactly how I have to log in, and yeah it's probably been quite awhile that it's been like that. I don't even bother to go see if I'm logged in on the forums page anymore on my first go. Instead I login, logout, login and then I'm good to go.

I have to do the exact same thing that rdmc and Faith do. Frustrating but it works.

Yeah the "log in, log out , log in" sequence that you can only figure out by accident.

I find it really annoying and inconvenient that they make us log out and log in every time as if it were a banking website or something. This discourages me from participating as much as I would like to. I'm a member of a number of other message boards and they all allow me to remain logged in. I don't understand why MS World doesn't. I have my own laptop, I use it at home, it's not like someone is going to log on as me, and even if they did, it's not like this board is full of secure information. Major pet peeve that has turned me off of MS World.

It is annoying, typing is not easy for all of us

I like to visit the 'world' regularly; often every day. At one time when we'd registered to join MSWorld we just would put our name in from the drop down menu and then our password would automatically show up! I guess it takes too much space up to save passwords, so they quit doing that, but I long to have it back.

                          message board to chat

On my laptop it will not let me chat. I can check message board but when I hit the chat it sends me to a blank windows page that says cannot find link. Both desk tops work fine. Any suggestions. All have windows exployer vs 9

THIS IS WHAT I AM SAYING!! This is not a "secure site" I don't understand why if I use the remember me button I can't just have the site recognize my computer and let me on.

Sometimes I log in 2 X's a day. It is inconvenient and cumbersome and really not necessary.

Would someone please tell us why we have to do this.
