    "MS and Your Feelings"

I just started reading a great book! "MS and Your Feelings" by Allison Shadday. It is the first book I have seen that really deals with the feelings that we have. She was dx with MS in 1994 I believe and is a psychologist. Great so far! You can get it on Amazon.
    Best to you,
    Sharon

glad to see so many good things said about the book...i picked it up and put it back down at a local Borders book store because i was afraid it was going to be like every other MS related book, which is about 2/3 medical spew and 1/3 authors story.

Think this may be my next book of choice!

This is definitely a great book, and has some really helpful suggestions. I have been doing the journaling that goes along with it as well, which has been really difficult in a way, but therapeutic for sure.

One of my favorite pieces of the book was a suggestion that one of her clients had for letting go of night time worrying when you're trying to get to sleep. She would take each of the things she was stressing over and thinking about, and mentally see herself putting them in a box, and putting them away to deal with the next day, instead of while trying to sleep. It sounds of course, totally corny, but it has worked for me the last three nights! Getting to sleep since I've been diagnosed, has been one of the hardest things for me, as that seems to be when all the thoughts come.

She also has some good things to say about her specialist (Dr. Cohan) who as of March will be my new neuro. I'm excited to finally feel "listened to" which has been a bit like pulling teeth with my current neurologist.

Read the book, you'll love it!

I have the book "MS and Your Feelings" by Allison Shadday. I have read portions of it, what I've read so far is right on. I am energized to continue reading it further especially after spending time reviewing the comments on this thread, while I hydrate prior to taking my Avonex. I also feel so fortunate and truly blessed that Dr. Stanley Cohan is also my neurologist.

I just got this book from Amazon before I found the forum, it's one of the areas I think is highly important for me right now. Glad that others have found it to be helpful, I'm going to make it a high priority.

I bought this a two years ago, and have read it through twice, as well as going back to re-read selected chapters. Was worth my time.

As well as dealing with my dx in 2007, I had after learning that my one son had Asperger's Syndrome that I also exhibit certain Aspie traits, so along with a family history of depression and bipolar issues...

                      I'm screwed...

I agree, got it last yr or so, from the reading library at the ms society. I wish I had bought it, it is worth rereading when needed.
