    Basic French Toast

    Ingredients
    4 eggs
    2-1/2 Tablespoons milk
    1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
    4 slices bread
    butter
    fresh fruit slices, applesauce, preserves,
    OR confectioners' sugar

    Directions
    1 With fork in shallow dish, beat together eggs, milk, and nutmeg, if desired,
    until well blended.
    2 One slice at a time, soak bread in egg mixture, letting stand about 1 minute on each
    side.
    3 In large skillet over high heat or on griddle, heat butter until just hot enough to sizzle
    a drop of water.
    4 Place bread in hot pan.
    5 Reduce heat to medium and cook on both sides until lightly browned.
    6 Serve immediately with fruit.

    MAKES 2 servings
