What's the difference between dairy free & casein free?

Is there a difference between dairy free & casein free or is it the same thing?

Casein is dairy, so if you're completely dairy-free you're automatically casein-free.

However, casein is an ingredient in various packaged foods and energy bars, so it's necessary to read labels carefully. Look for sodium caseinate or calcium caseinate.

BTW, casein has a molecular structure that's very similar to that of gluten.

casein is the protein in cow's milk and requires the enzyme rennet for digestion; found in baby cow's tummies not ours. Goat milk protein is smaller and perhaps easier to breakdown. I eat/recommend more goat cheese than cow cheese.
