Weightloss Checkin Group: Weighin for 8/181/16:

    8/18/16

Hi Everyone. Will wonders never cease. I lost two pounds during my daughter’s visit. I did not think I was eating that differently but know I was focused on my daughter’s diabetic diet. Her blood sugar level was normal during her stay for which I was grateful. She is overweight after being very slender her whole life. The gain is due to psychotropic meds and it is hard for her to lose. Plus I don’t think she is as diligent as when she was here. I hope she lost too. And I hope I can maintain. If not I will just have to have her visit again. LOL

As I mentioned above I lost two pounds so now weigh 113. I don’t want to go any lower but will try to stay at that weight for a while.

Agate, so sorry to miss you this week and hope you are well.

Mamabug, good for you for your slow steady reduction. I am so glad for you that your plan has worked out well. Very best wishes.

Hsmaldo, it is good to hear from you. Your plans sound positive and I hope you have a very successful outcome. Thank you for the kind wishes. Hope to hear from you soon.

Poohb3ar, very good loss! You have made really good progress for the past few weeks. I know you can continue to keep that scale going down. Keep up the good work.

Msgijo, nice small loss. I know what you mean by a buffer. I try to stay as close to 113 as possible so that if I overindulge I don’t go over 115. I don’t always succeed but have managed to stay close to 115 when I do lose it. Good luck with maintaining.

For those who may have an interest in joining our dedicated group, our members each have their own personal methods of weight loss. Some are on Weight Watchers, some on Atkins for example and some just cut calories. I personally lost quite a lot of weight in the beginning using Atkins and then just cut portions while eating everything. The method is not the most important thing, it is staying focused and following the plan.

We post weight loss, gain, stayed the same, from Thursday to Thursday and have been doing so for fourteen years. We are truly dedicated to get rid of those pesky pounds and keep them off. You don’t have to state your actual weight. It’s a matter of choice.

    Tip For The Week:

Dr. Oz says, “Go lean with bean protein. Beans are an affordable and healthy alternative to meats and are wonderfully filling.” I occasionally have a large Portobelo mushroom filled with hummus which is made from garbanzo beans as an entre and find it very filling. Mushrooms have virtually no calories which is a big plus.

    Weight Loss Results:

    Total Loss:

2.9 pounds by three members. Very good. You are on a roll. Continuing the downward trend is outstanding. Our loss ratio is high this week, no thanks to me. Thank you for being good examples.

    Total Gain:

1 gain by one member. Sorry to break the mold. At least I am an example of what not to do this week.

    Stayed The Same:

0 members. As we know, staying the same truly is success, including for those who are maintaining. Just keep remembering it is the time before the next loss if you have more to lose. Also staying the same is a signal that you are eating the right amount to maintain your losses.

3894.3 is the total weight loss for the past 14 years. We have hit a new milestone. We now have less than 200 pounds to reach two tons lost. That is fantastic.

Made my goal last week of cutting the sugar out of my yogurt. I'm down to just some fruit, cinnamon and plain yogurt. I've also scaled back on eating desserts and instead having a protein shake for that something sweet.

I've also been experimenting with my coffee. This is frustrating and it hasn't helped that the power has gone out a couple times and messed with my automatic coffee maker. (This morning my coffee was brewed at 12 am!!)

But I've cut out the hot chocolate and sweet cream creamer and have moved to 1/2 T cocoa powder, 2 T half & half and a pkt of Truvia. It's taken all week to get to this point and my coffee experiences have been disappointing, but I think I've got a combo that I can live with now.

School is going to be starting in a few weeks, but I am REALLY not ready for the stress of having to pack lunches and take over doing the household chores and stuff again. I think getting back on a schedule will be good for everyone, but it's always hard to transition.

I'll weigh myself on Tuesday, or I might hold out until Thursday and will try to post next week!

Good luck to everyone this week!

      Lost 0.8 lbs this week

Total weight lost in 2016: 6.6 lbs

      Monthly weights:
      12/31: 134.6 lbs . . . 01/28: 132.6 lbs . . . 02/25: 131.6 lbs . . . 03/31: 132.6 lbs . . .
      04/28: 133.6 lbs . . . 0
      5/26: 133.2 lbs . . . 06/30: 132.4 lbs . . . 07/28: 129.6 lbs

      Recent weights:
      8/18: 128.0 lbs
      8/11: 128.8 lbs
      January inches:
      B 40"; W 38.5", H 37"
      June inches:
      B 40"; W 37.5", H 37"

As I said last week, my Nature's Sunshine 13-week IN.FORM program is complete, but I plan to continue to do things "my way". For me, at this point, this means:
      • Fewer shakes than they recommend, and combining some of their shakes with some higher protein shakes that I have. Making my shakes into green smoothies (with spinach or kale) in the blender.
      • Continuing to take their supplements (probiotics, berberine, carbo kit, etc).
      • Continuing to do my "calorie cycling" by eating 1200-1500 calories on Sundays and Wednesdays, and eating less on the other five days.
      • Including moderate amounts of grains, sugar and potatoes in my diet, even though the IN.FORM diet excludes them.
      • Not exercising as much as they recommend, because I have neither the energy nor the motivation.
      • Drinking less water than they recommend, because that amount gets me up too often at night for the bathroom.
      • Cutting back on my Diet Dr. Pepper.

The past two weeks, I've added two Nature's Sunshine supplements:
      • Thyroid Support
      • UltraTherm CF

They seem to have helped the weight continue to come off.

My goal continues to be in the 121-122 range. I'd be happier, though, if more inches would come off of my waist. Five years ago, when I was in that range, my waist was 34", and I don't expect I can get it there this time. ((Sigh!)) Post menopause.

Karen - Nice loss . As a way to visit with your daughter, calling her back for another 'loss week' is a great idea, but you DO realize that if you could eat like that with her that you can eat like that without her also ?

hsmaldo - I had never thought to try coffee the way you did. Sounds like it may be something that I could live with (if I ever get the will power to mess with my coffee again). I am sure you will have a loss to report, but will wish you best of luck anyhow.

Mamabug - Way to go! I read an article this morning about the wonderful things that broccoli does, and it is suppose to help with weight loss. I don't do smoothies, but thought about that when I saw your post about adding spinach or kale. The article did say that raw was best way to eat it.

Agate - looked for your post everywhere. Just wanted to let you know that you are missed .

I lost 1.1 pounds this week. I am going to attribute it to exceeding my step goal on 4 days this week. It sure wasn't my wonderful eating habits (I ate too much a couple of days and of course it was too much of the 'wrong' things).
        8/12 123.9
        8/18 122.8

Only a few more weeks til September. Around here Sept is the time when it starts cooling down . Not to say that it won't still be hot, just that > 100 degree days will be rare. Fall has always been my favorite season, and my busiest one. Maybe I can go into the holiday season with an advantage this year .

          Yeah; broccoli is healthy too.

I don't eat a lot of broccoli. I guess I could buy raw broccoli already cut up, but I'm too lazy to cut a big broccoli head up by myself. I do, sometimes, eat frozen broccoli.

Spinach or kale is good for smoothies because they don't have much of their own taste. I've also used swiss chard, when it's all that's available at the local farmer's market. I've tried raw broccoli in smoothies, but they taste too much like broccoli then, and I don't like my smoothies to taste like vegetables.

If I add the shake powder/protein powder and lots of spinach or kale and just a few berries, and then some cinnamon and some cacao powder, it tastes almost dessert-like. I can't get hubby to taste it though.

I also add some greens powder for extra nutrition, and some ground flax seed and some psyllium powder for additional fiber. I have a high-powered blender, so it blends it all up really good and smooth -- not chunky or leafy. Nice and cold if I add some crushed ice to the water and ingredients.

Still at 119. I was too late in posting in last week's thread. Somehow time gets away from me!

I'm keeping up with the exercises I was told at PT to do. It's like a vacation because the ones I'd been doing while having PT were daily, and now there are some that I need to do only on MWF. They aren't very difficult. I just have to remember to do them but so far I've been doing OK.

Hope everyone is resisting temptations even though there's so much interesting-looking food out there, being offered and even imposed on us.

You go into a supermarket, and there are people offering samples of crackers with dollops of cheese on them. It's hard to go on by.

I haven't been in a supermarket in over a year myself but there are temptations offered here in this building. They don't have an event around here without refreshments, and they're almost always cupcakes, cookies, and cake.
