    New guy from Alabama

    Hello from Alabama.
I was diagnosed with possible MS two weeks ago after waking up unable to walk or see and being rushed to the hospital. Everything was a blur, but they ran multiple painful and scary tests before they told me I had demyelination. They put me on a 5 day steroid routine with 1 gram (I believe) a day of steroids. I am able to walk and see fine now and my physical therapist was shocked when I ran up the stairs a few days into my hospitalization.
I am scared and angry about this curse and feel like just throwing my hands up and saying the heck with it and going far away. I was abused for 12 years by my lovely and wonderful (sarcasm) ex-wife and I escaped that two years ago just for this.
I hope you all are having a good night.
    Brian

      Hi Brian !!

Sorry this is happening to you !!

But you seem to have a good sense of humor, which will come in handy w/ MS.

Thank you hunterd. This is all so new and overwhelming to say the least and frustrating and maddening. I am so glad this resource is available.

Thank you so much for the welcome.
I'm trying to have a sense of humor, but it's hard. I am wondering what I did wrong to deserve this.

            Hello Brian and ROLL TIDE!!!
I am also from Alabama. Life is not over yet. My first marriage was terrible but I am now married to a wonderful man and even though I was diagnosed with MS, I am happier than I have ever been.
It is nice to have this group and be able to talk to people that know how you feel.

(for non-Alabamians) that means Roll Tide Roll!

                  Bri,
What part of AL are you from? We live near Mobile. Happy to meet you on this wonderful website, however, could be under better scenario.

My hubby is Brian also and was diagnosed at the end of March this year- he was hemi paretic on his left side. This has been the worst year of our lives. We've both learned a lot, on our own, as well as this great website. You will meet a lot of wonderful peeps here with lots of great advice.

The best advice I can give is to buckle up and hang on. At least the temps will drop soon, that will hopefully help with relapses. You can also reach out and rely on your most upbeat family and friends for help. Don't be too proud to ask for help when you need it. Happy and positive people are the best to have around for this process. May be a blessing in disguise that your ex is out of your life.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. I certainly wish you the best of luck and care. Take your meds the dr's prescribe, get your mri's, and take your Vitamin D3!!

                  all my best,
                  Belle

                          Bamabelle,
                          Rolllll Tide Roll!!!
I am in the Birmingham area here. I love the Mobile area though. It is a pleasure to meet you, but like you said, i wish it was under different circumstances. I am worried about the heat here in Alabama and the effect it will have. How is your husband handling it?
I am waiting for an appointment with an MS specialist here in Birmingham I have heard a lot of good things about. In the meantime, I am taking lots of D3 and trying to hang in here. I am scared to death though.
I hope you are having a great night.
                          Brian

                            Brian,
I am also from Alabama and was recently diagnosed. I'm not sure what part if AL you are located in but I have been seeing a MS specialist in Cullman, who is highly recommended. His sole purpose for becoming a doctor was to find a cure for MS because his mother died from MS complications when he was 12. He is currently doing miraculous things with clinical trials. He is going to put me in one once I get stabilized on betaseron. Just wanted to let you know, sometimes having a doctor with such a passion to help makes the struggle a little easier.

                              Welcome locorabbitt

Hlawman interested in what your MS dr will put you on. Please keep us updated as some of us aren't close to Alabama and haven't been so lucky as finding a neurologist with a vested interest in this disease.
