    Social Security Help

Hello I have a question I get a disability check for myself and my 3 kids get a check 7,4,1 as well I am married. Do I have to claim my kids income on my taxes or just mine? Is it better to file married jointly or married separately? I did not get any taxes taken out of my check either. Do I have to file a tax return? Our the checks I get and my kids get taxable?

    Can anyone help please

    Thank you
    Lisa

I AM NOT a tax expert. The following is my experience only.

In the state in which I live disability checks aren't taxed, BUT I do pay federal taxes. As best as I can remember the checks my children received were not taxed, but I always take everything to the tax preparer to let them figure it out.
Even though I do have federal taxes taken out of my disability checks my husband I always file jointly - it always seems to be our best option (per our tax preparer).
