    SSDI starting the process

I was fired from my last job on June 1st. Reason given was I couldn't keep up/learn the job -- this was the same reason given to me on my last two jobs - I've been thru 3 jobs in three years now. Previous to these jobs I held a similar position for 17 years without issue. I also have Meniere's disease and bipolar depression. With regard to my MS, I deal with tremors, stiffness, spasticity and balance problems on a daily basis along with panic attacks 2-3 times a week.

I am using an attorney, I did my initial interview over the phone with a very nice woman from SSA. I received the function report to fill out along with the job history form.
I am a little discouraged reading others posts here saying it takes up to 2 years to get approved; I've exhausted my savings and am now borrowing money from my family to keep me afloat, but I'm not sure they'll be willing to do this for 2 years.

Has anyone been approved after their first application?

    Thank you.

    SSDI Approval

Approximately 35 percent of applicants for SSDI are approved with their first application. My application in 2006 was approved within 6 weeks. I was an accountant using a power wheelchair. I had worked from home; but, was unable to perform the duties of my job. I worked with our local Freedom Resource Center for Independent Living to assist me with my original online application. I was originally diagnosed with MS in 1994.

      Sparticle,

Have you had any neuropsych testing completed that documents memory issues. I think the fact that you have coexisting conditions and have been let go from 3 jobs due to inability to learn/retain will work in your favor. You have tried to work, but issues prevent you.

Make sure your neurologist records reflect both physical and cognitive deficits and supports your filing.

There are stories of people getting approved 1st time, but most of us who post are the ones who had problems. So don't be too discouraged. Your lawyer can help gauge and provide more realistic expectation based on your individual case.

      Good luck.

        Sparticle,

I was approved on the first try in 2007. I voluntarily left a good job with a company after 28 years. I was offered a "package" to go. it allows younger people in the company to stay and not get laid off.

I was having trouble keeping up. I was taking a lot of FMLA time. I did the phone interview too. I told them that I left voluntarily, received money to leave, and was getting a pension.

My neuro of 19 years kept lots of notes. I was 58 years old.

        Good luck to you!

Hello, Sparticle and everyone. I hope you get approved soon, Sparticle, but if it does not, try to have a plan if it takes longer than desired. Work with your attorney to try to get approved sooner than later. All the best.

Does your state offer interim assistance? Its a loan that they give you while you wait for approval. They will garnish your backpay though.

Yes. I was approved in 3 months, no attorney.

I was meticulous with my application.

I was approved in 6 weeks, no exam by their dr or even telephone interview, filed on line and gave drs permission to release information, Nuero sent file right away upon request and supported my claim.
