    Short Term Disability

My husband is considering filing for Social Sec Disability. His boss says that they have short term disability that he could get on while we are waiting on Social Sec to approve him. Would him signing up for short term from work go against him on getting approval from Soc Sec? We are so afraid that we will mess this thing up. Anybody with any info, please share.

    Thanks Sharon

I was on short term when I was approved.
Plan for the future, but not too hard; it’s not your decision anyway

Hello, Sharon. No, it shouldn't mess up the claim, however, keep in mind that you may have different issues to prove in the Social Security disability claim, as opposed to the STD claim. For example, for the STD insurance, one may only have to prove that they cannot perform their job, but in an Social Security disability claim, one may have to show that one cannot perform any work. Check the STD/LTD plan documents to see what you must establish. Let me know if you have further questions and you may wish to consider hiring a representative for husband's Social Security disability claim.
