What to do about Foot Drop

    Hello Everyone,

I was diagnosed in 2007. I am on Techfidera & Ampyra. I have problems with foot drop.

I personally refuse to give up wearing heels or use a walking aid of any kind. To the outside world I do not look like I have a medical condition. Which is how I prefer it. With that said, has anyone out there had success with ankle strengthening exercises? Or similar?

    Thank you!

Oh yeah, ankle strengthening exercises! Good thought ! And lots of physical therapy. The science literature assures us that PT is very helpful with physical deficits. If you can regenerate your strength after you burn up the energy you started to exercise with! After a few months, let us know how it going! Good luck

Try physical therapy. Here's an article for you http://www.everydayhealth.com/news/h...ted-foot-drop/

Before you fall and injure yourself, please seriously consider giving up the high heels until your foot drop is addressed. I know that's not what you want to hear, but all it takes is one fall (MS or not) to seriously injure yourself! (Been there ) So not worth breaking a bone or causing another serious injury.

      Best of luck

You may want to get an Elevate Brace (Foot Scientific has a great one) and you can even punch eyelets into your heels and other cute shoes to wear it with! It really helps to lift your toes up, making stumbling from drop foot a not-so-common occurrence anymore~

          Lol Jerry

JerryD, I couldn't help but chuckle at your response. I'm not EXACTLY sure how you meant it, but I read it how I feel about it...with a lil sarcasm. ..and I worked in rehab 18 years.

Exercise IS great, until you reach the point where just doing a set of 10 this and that just a few times, that I had spaghetti legs for several days after. I ended up having to quit so called exercise and just count on my daily activities as my exercise.

Even when I have HAD to do PT following knee and foot surgeries, it was very challenging to not end up worse.

If I'm totally wrong my apologies, but this is my feeling at this point in my life anyway.

Best wishes and my God bless
