    hip/leg question

If I've been walking around, even for a little while, like running into the grocery store, when I go to sit in the car my legs don't want to bend at the hip, very stiff feeling in that area and I sometimes have to "help" the second leg get lifted into the car. Is this just getting older hips or could it be a type of spasticity...or just being out of shape? What do you think?

    Hi Susie,

Sounds like this could be spasticity (more specifically extensor spasticity). It can be brought on when you over fatigue your muscles. I would suggest talking to your doctor. Besides medication, stretching and PT can help.

I hope this information is helpful and please let us know what your doctor thinks as well.

    Good luck!

      Hi bammaw

I don't have any trouble bending but often have to lift my left leg into the car to get in. My PT says this is definitely my MS (weak hip flexors). It starts with the MS then gets weaker from not using it because of the weakness. She has given me some exercises and stretches to help compensate for the weakness. They also help my balance. So maybe a combination MS and deconditioning secondary to MS.
