@ Weekly Vets Muster on the MS deck, April 1st '11

Weekly Muster on the mess deck

All veterans, active duty, family even LimboLanders are ALL welcome here. As veterans we have some different situations and issues than most civilian MSers. We deal with the VA and some of us get our medical care thru VA medical Centers, issues of getting help with disability and pensions etc.

Please......... Drop in and say HI at least once per muster. We want to know you are doing OK, hope better than just OK. With REGULAR musters we can get to know our fellow vets better and build a sense of UNITY. If you run across a fellow Vet elsewhere on MSWorld, please let them know we are here so they can join us.

Hope everyone is doing well !

The VA web site..... (link below) list notice of free monthly educational conference calls.
    http://www4.va.gov/MS/articles/Educa...ence_Calls.asp

If you have not done so yet, please post an intro in the thread titled "Vets Master Muster & intros". Please post only your into there so it ONLY contains your into. You can always start a new thread for questions or other issues.

    How was YOUR week?
Any recent Doc appts or tests at the VA or elsewhere?

    SPRNG Has Sprung

I plan to hit the Cherry fest in Washington DC (mini R&R?). I hear the peak was just a couple days ago and should be fantastic photography oppertunity for picture taking. I am starting the weekly Muster thread a couple days early due to my travel plans. We have a really great Crew here, so someone will be around to help with questions, as usual and plenty of willing ears in case you feel like venting. I will be checking in from time to time when & where I have web access.

    MOUSE CALIBRATION FOR 2011
You should actually do this every year. Even more often if you spend a lot of time on the computer. The proceedure to calibrate you mouse is below and if you see a special message, you will know your mouse is properly calabrated for Vets Muster.

To re-calibrate your mouse, L-click and hold on the
BLUE capital G below, then drag it toward the small green g.If it doesn't work immediately, you might want to clean your mouse, as the calibration is off.

    =Begin Calabration Zone=

Great April showers should bring spring flowers, even in the Land of Flowers, the literal meaning of the word Florida. may you have a wonderfull Spring

    =End Calabration Zone=

    Anything new coming up Soon?

    Hello, All,

Haven't posted in a while. Feeling pretty good, just trying to fight the boredom. I had an interesting issue with the VA this week.

I was getting Ampyra shipped through CVS Caremark and being payed for by the VA. They called me to schedule my next shipment, then called back the next day and said they were no longer contracted by the VA and had no idea what I was supposed to do. After several calls to the VA and the drug company, I finally found out that the VA was now carrying it through their pharmacy. I was able to pick it up on Thursday at the local VA hospital. It was a close call, because I was going to run out on Friday, but at least I'm still able to get it.

My sub has a reunion in June in Branson, MO. I was thinking about going, but found out it was going to be impossible to fly with my scooter, because the aircraft that fly there are too small. I don't know if renting one there would be expensive.

I met another vet with MS at the local VA recently. She is also a ham radio operator, as am I. I told her about this board, so hopefully she'll join us soon.

No kidding, I was getting ready to post a topic asking what happened and if you were OK.
There's a B Girl (Barbel, Bonefish, Blueback) reunion in Chicago this summer but its getting very little traction, at least with the guys I served with. I managed to track down a bud from the Barbel who lives about 50 miles from here and get him into SUBVETS . We were planning to go to the reunion if some other guys committed but he finally said "I'm out" so I'm blowing it off.
I think we need more "grass roots" reunions where it isn't going to cost a C note a night for a hotel plus 50 bucks for meals. We just figure out who has the biggest house and/or garage/barn and go from there.

        Hi, Bob,

I know, I should check in more often.

Between airfare and hotel it was going to be hard to manage anyway, not being able to bring the scooter made my decision easier. One reason I wanted to go was one of my RM chiefs was going to be there. Unfortunately, he recently passed.

I like your idea about making it more affordable. I always liked camping, but getting back up off the ground would be a challenge now.

My boat's reunion committee has a good plan for reunions. We have them every 2 years and every other one is in Groton. At least I can drive there and transport my scooter in the car. So hopefully, I'll be able to go 2 years from now.

The USSVI National Convention is in Branson this year too. I'd like to make one of those again someday. The only one I've been to was the one my base hosted in 2004. The National Junior Vice Commander is a member of my base.

You were Nav/Ops? I knew there was a reason why I liked you.

Nav/Ops= We scrub the deck with pride.

Check this out, my QM bud from my first boat is CMC in San Diego and one of "my guys" from ETA school is CMC in Groton.

            Long time not visiting

            Hey all,
Sorry for not hanging out here a lot. I've been having a hard winter and not up for much.

The first week of February, I caught the winter bug going around and have been left with a cough that isn't going away. Already have asthma and take 3 inhalers for maintenance twice a day. PC is as frustrated as I, since even though I am diagnosed with asthma, my pulmonary functions test comes back normal... So, i am on my second round of oral steroids. I did one round of antibiotics. Cough is still here. Supposed to see a pulmonary specialist on 28 Apr.

Needless to say, I have been pretty worn out. Good news is I found an amazing massage therapist. I had my second appt. with her last night. It is a lot of deep tissue work, so it can be painful at times and I even feel bruised today, but we are making progress with some muscles that are virtually frozen in place. It is helping with my headaches some too.

As for the migraines, the bad news is the VA is phasing out the use of Zomig and going with Imitrex. Imitrex does NOT work on my headaches. I can't see the neuro until June and I only have one pill left. I am afraid to use it, so I suffer days with headaches... I do have insurance through my job, so I am wondering if I should get an outside of the VA neuro and get the pills that work.

Spring is finally trying to happen here in VT. Bad news is my basement flooded last night and it is still pouring in. We had so much snow this winter.

I did much better emotionally this winter as I had a sun lamp. Amazing how much better I felt!

Soon I will get my bicycle out and try to lose some weight and get in shape. Of course, I need to fix the cough first...

Overall, not bad, just been tired.
