    Tecfidera to tysabri washout?

My neuro is considering switching me to tysabri from tecfidera - is there a washout period required? I should have asked at the appointment but I didn't think about it at the time. Has anyone made this switch and what did they do?

Five to ten years ago there was a lot more fuss made about washout periods because neurologists weren't particularly experienced with immunomodualtion and immunosuppression and they were afraid of "oversuppressing" people. Since then, MS specialists and the neurology profession as a whole has more experience with immunosuppressants and have found that reducing or eliminating washout periods hasn't caused the calamity that was feared.

That doesn't mean that there is a standard protocol for the switch, and doctors may not agree on how much of a washout period, if any, is optimal. So you'll have to ask your own doctor what s/he is comfortable with, because your doc is the one who has to oversee your switch and assume responsibility for anything that might occur.
