What Kind of Stomach Problems Does Tecfidera Cause?

I have read that Tecfidera causes stomach problems, but what kind?

I have Barrett's Esophagus, which is abnormal tissue in my esophagus, caused by acid reflux. Does it cause acid reflux? Will it make it worse?

    Thanks for any input.

    Sue,
You have similar concerns as I have. I just started the lower dose Tec (120mgs ? 2X daily). I am putting my faith in my neurologists hands. Have you started Tec yet ? I have a lot of faith in my neurologist. He is an MS specialist and treats over 100 MS patients. If you have these concerns, you should call your neurologists office.
If you are like me, you can read a lot but that doesn't always answer your questions. good luck

No, I haven't started tec yet. I won't until I see my neurologist again in January. Came off Betaseron in October due to depression.

        They've finally gone away

My stomach problems were mostly GI issues, but my stomach was upset for a while, too. For the first month I would take my pill with a GasX capsule, and I think this helped cuz I didn't have as many issues as my friend did. When I stopped taking the GasX my stomach would sometimes be crampy and sore, so my neuro suggested that I take the pill with a full meal. This was hard for me in the mornings as I don't eat much then, just a smoothie or piece of fruit.

He said I shouldn't stress about keeping the pills 12 hours apart but make sure I take them with food and a min of 4 hours between doses. This has helped, and I'm happy to say my stomach feels better. I started at the end of July. Good luck to you - I hope everything goes well for you.
Dx 1991, remission til 2007 so now SPMS.
        Currently on Tecfidera and Fampyra.

There is a lot of talk about this on the boards - I honestly had absolutely no stomach issues when starting this medication, and continue to be GI symptom free.

I've only been in Tec for two weeks. No flushing at all!!! I've had no diarrhea and just a little nausea. Mostly just some stomach aching. Sort of s cramping but that seems to going away too! Very happy so far.
