I have seen many posts re: PML and Tecfidera. Just wanted to post a link to an article listing the "4 PML patients" who were NOT taking Tecfidera and had compromised immune systems.

They weren't taking tecfidera but they were taking dimethyl fumarate and that is what tecfidera is.

But your point is well taken. Negatives get blown out of proportion so easily that I'm reluctant to say anything about tecfidera being dimethyl fumarate. I don't believe anyone should alter treatment plans based on that fact alone.

However, if they experienced very low white blood cell counts for an extended period of time on tecfidera (dimethyl fumarate) resulting in a seriously weakened immune system they might want to know that there were 4 pml cases in similar circumstances with another drug containing dimethyl fumarate.

Biogen said that other drug (fumaderm)had 180,000 patient years of experience. So PML was really quite rare. There but rare; very rare.
