I try not to get overly excited about medications until Phase II is complete and the results are in. It is still exciting that another drug may be available in a few years to help us. I am glad a number of relatively inexpensive drugs may soon be used in combo or as a complimentary therapy for MS. This could help improve the effectiveness of existing treatments without breaking the bank.
Tavist-D is a combination of clemastine (antihistamine) and phenylpropanolamine (decongestant). Preparations containing phenylpropanolamine were withdrawn from the market because of the increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke. http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/.../ucm150738.htm
Only the antihistiamine part (clemastine) is in the MS trial: Assessment of Clemastine Fumarate as a Remyelinating Agent in Multiple Sclerosis (ReBUILD)
Clemastine has completed phase 2 and the researches are working hard to get the information analysed. I was told that they could have the report finished in March. I have ordered 5 grams of clemastine and will start to try 4 mg twice daily. I hope that it works for me.
