Switching from Copaxone 20 to Copaxone 40

My MS Specialist rx'd that in August, but, C40 was not covered at that time, so I didn't make the switch. It is now covered, and, Shared Solutions also has a Copaxone assistance program, so my $30 co-pay will be $0. My pharmacy will be shipping it out on Thursday.

What insurance do you have? I was with Blue cross and started on the 40mg. The first of the year my work changed to united health care. They made me go to the 20mg. I hate the 20mg. I feel like if I had as many needles poked in me poking out, I would look like a porcupine!!!!!!!

I'm on United Health Care. I think that my insurance plan made the switch to cover C40 as of January 1. Strange, that your UHC made you switch back? Maybe you could call them again and find out what is going on. Or, maybe Shared Solutions could give you some advice. They are the ones who suggested to me that I check back. They told me that more than one insurance company made the switch after the first of the year.

Check with Shared Solutions first - they are really pushing for us to change to the 40mg.

I have talked to shared solutions and they told me to talk to my neuro and make complaints of the 20mg. They said to push hard because my neuro is my "employee", they work for me. I knew at the time when I was taking my last 40mg I had thoughts that here goes a good thing. I feel sorry for others that have to do the 20mg everyday!!!!! For some the 40mg was a blessing. I miss the zero dollar co-pay, but I should be fortunate my co-pay for the 20mg is $35. I feel sorry for the people who has no insurance and have to pay those stiff bills. It's not like we signed up for this horrible disease.

Yes; there are certainly complaints that could be made regarding the 20mg. If my insurance had not changed their decision regarding coverage of 40mg, I would have explained, and also had my doc explain how the daily shots created such awful site reactions that I had had to go to 4x per week, rather than daily shots, and I was beginning to have more frequent flares as the reduced dose was no longer effective for me. I am hopeful that increasing my dose back to the recommended dosage will improve my problem with MS flares.

              Update

I received my Copaxone 40 yesterday, and did my first injection. I've heard about some people who had site reactions to it, due to the higher dosage, but I had no problems. I'm hopeful that being on the recommended dosage now, instead of the reduced Copaxone 20 dose that I had received permission to take, will help to avoid future MS flares.
