    Raltegravir/Isentreess ?

I just read something on the web that said there are 2 clinical trials underway using this raltegravir, an HIV drug, to treat MS. Does anyone have any info on this ?

Think it is only for RRMS.

Did you see the links to the studies on clinical trials? Looks like they are still recruiting.

I found the clinical trial for one of them, but it probably has info you already know about. Maybe it will help someone else.

      http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01767701

"There is accumulating research evidence that Human Endogenous Retrovirus (HERV) and herpes viruses (in particular Epstein-Barr Virus) are involved in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis. People with active MS have higher levels of HERVs than people either without MS or who have other neurological conditions. It has been shown that HERVs may produce neurotoxic proteins/antigens associated with MS activity and disease progression. This is the first clinical trial investigating the hypothesis that the antiretroviral drug raltegravir may suppress HERV activity and ameliorate progression of relapsing remitting MS. "

(I hope I can post the link/cut and paste since it's from such a benign site.)

I only know of one trial of this drug in MS. The Charcot Project is the same investigation as the "INSPIRE" trial. INSPIRE is a part of that project.

Merck agreed to supply Isentress for the INSPIRE trial. I believe they were trying to get 19 people total and had 14 a couple months ago.

This trial is taking place in London. Hopefully, we will begin to hear preliminary reports soon.

We have the INSPIRE trial. But I wonder what other trial was mentioned involving Isentress and MS?
