When should I take a xanax before my MRI? Im getting an IV and thats the part that im extremely nervous about. Im not sure how fast xanax kicks in.. so I have not a clue when to take it to get the "maximum" help.

Its been a while, I think my doctor instructed me to take it around 45 minutes prior to the MRI. I would ask your doctor or the MRI techs, it may be determined by your dose and size.
It has worked very well for me the few times I have taken to relax me.

Definitely check with your doctor, and find out if you should drive depending on the dose and if you are used to the xanax or not.
I hate IVs too -- I've had so much trouble with them getting them started in the past. However, this last time the MRI tech did the IV -- I didn't even feel the needle at all ! It was so awesome.
Another thing is to be sure that you are hydrated, but of course you don't want to be so hydrated that you have to use the bathroom mid-MRI ! It's a tough balancing act for me.Comment
