    Anti-Depressant

I am wondering if an AD would help me.

I am not depressed but I stay tensed 24/7. Neck and shoulder is a mess from so much tension.. have tension knots, tight muscles, etc.

I was thinking of trying an AD to see if that will help. I was thinking Zoloft.. but not sure.

Would like to hear from others taking an AD and its helping to keep you calm. Also, I am not taking a DMD at this time.

I take a small dose Ativan but it helps just a week bit. I think I need something in my system to help keep me calm. Do I need nerve pain, AD, up my Ativan, I dunno.. at a loss.

I am also trying to gain weight, but being tensed 24/7 is not helping. I should also add, I am 51 years young and going through peri-menopause... and its really beating me up.

Between peri-meno and ms.. my poor body needs a break. I really don't want to go on an AD but I need something to help me along the way.

Hope I get some responses/suggestions, etc.

I find Celexa really helps with both my tension and my depression. It is not perfect, but it has made both a lot more bearable.

I take a low dose of elavil

      Hi Jay
When my doc first suggested an AD to me I was pretty put-off because I didn't feel depressed, or at least thought I was doing the best I could under the circumstances. Well, I agreed to try a low dose of elavil and it is the best decision I've made. I had immediate relief of a buzzing I get when I sleep (which makes for a miserable nights sleep & tough days) & it is helping me so much!!! I hope you find something to help you

Thanks Candycane. I never heard of elavil. That's the way I feel.. I am not depressed.. I have my days but not depressed... therefore I did not feel a need for an AD.

But if it can help keep me calm and not soo tensed.. I am willing to give it a try.

          Zoloft

Would like to hear from others that are on Zoloft.. I am going to call my Neuro on Monday to ask his opinion.

Love my Zoloft and Nortriptyline. The only downside was a lack of sex drive. Watching a little porn helps with that.

now on to celexa--anyone have feedback on citalopram???

I mentioned I was on elavil.
Over time i became depressed in spite of the excellent nights rest on elavil (Side effect of DMD? Progession of MS? who knows )
Thankfully my neuro gave me a Rx for citalopram (Celexa) but told me not to start until the elavil was dramatically decreased, so I am waiting to start.
Wondering if anyone else has experience with celexa, (I've noticed it's pretty common with other patients on another board) & checking in on futurmil2b & hoping we all don't give up & keep trying till we find what works for us

                anyone have feedback on citalopram???

Good Morning Candy Cane and everyone else !

I take citalopram ( doc changed me from Lexapro to citalopram) and it has really been good for me...........I know that because the dumb thing I have done is taper myself off of it because of finances. I thought I would save money .......anyway, this week I am crying Uncle and going back on it...............tough to get moving and find myself rather weepy at times. I sleep okay.....except for waking up at 3 am and having trouble from then on...............not like me at all............I normally hit the bed and don't move til morning. Definitely going back on........life is better on it !!

I have been on Celexa for several years and it definitely helps with the depression and the anxiety. The only problem I have had, and it is a biggy, they can't get me off of it! They have tried to wean me very very very slowly and I still have intolerable withdrawal. I guess it is rare but can happen.

Over the past 10 years I have been on many different anti-depressants and I think the 1 that worked best for me overall was Zoloft, BUT on the dose that worked for me I lost all sexual drive, dead as a doornail.

I've been on Lexapro 10mg for a couple years, I couldn't take many of the other ones and the Lexapro I had no side effects with at all. But it has no generic. I have many friends on Zoloft and it seems to work for them.

Oh boy, futurmil2b - I remember going through peri-menopause and it's not fun, even w/o MS!! I was initially dx during that time myself and it was a double whammy. I started paxil to help with all the anxiety, but again the down side was no sex drive. Did that for awhile much to the distress of my dh. I was happy to switch to citalopram (Celexa) and have been on it for years now ( 8-9 years?) and no side effects!! I hope you find somethings that helps you.

                      Take care

I've been on the celexa almost 2 weeks and so far it's agreeing with me I'm hoping it works & I can stay on it for a while (interesting comment re: celexa withdrawal. yikes!)
