Looking for help interpreting test results

    Hi,

I’m new to the forums and I’m just trying to get some feedback on test results. I had a workup for MS about 8 years ago after an MRI ordered to evaluate a stroke-like incident showed a few small, nonspecific white matter lesions. At the time I was told that my lumbar puncture was normal and that MS had been excluded as a diagnosis.

Unfortunately, I’ve continued to have neurological problems and still find myself looking for answers as to what could be causing my symptoms. I decided to take a second look at some of my old test results and discovered that there were some results on my lumbar puncture and accompanying blood work that were out of range. While they don’t necessarily point to MS (no OCBs), it's possible that they might be indicative of some other condition that my current neurologist could test for. Unfortunately, I believe they are all pretty nonspecific indicators, so this may not be much help. However, if anyone has any information about what, if anything, these results might mean I’d love to hear from you.

The results that were out of range were:

    WBC CSF 9 ref (<5 per mm3)

RBC CSF 3 ref (Zero per mm3)

    Immunoglobulin M Loc 0.55 ref (<0.01)

    C Reactive Protein 1.8 ref (0.00 – <1.0 mg/dl)

Hello Wednesday and welcome to MSWorld

I can't tell you what your results mean but the links below might be of some help to you.

If you scroll down on the link below it will give you information on normal and abnormal CSF information:

You don't have OCBs but if you did there are other causes than just MS for this to happen:

Thank you for taking time to reply to my post and also for the links. They were very helpful. I'm not really sure what's going on. I've been dealing with neurological problems for almost 20 years now with no conclusive diagnosis. Some of my symptoms come and go, while others (peripheral neuropathy and palinopsia) appear to be more permanent. I've had some new symptoms develop recently that make me worry that whatever this is might be progressing. I'm hoping that my current neurologist can piece things together and come up with a diagnosis.

      Thanks again for your help.
