    Tingling

    Hello first time posting here.
Mir all started in November 2013 with stiff neck and headache that lasted 2 months. That lead me to my first MRI. It showed small hyperintensity in the MRI. My neurologist said it was migraine and hypertension. I do have high blood pressure. Since February 2015 I have been having buzzing, tingling and mild zapping sensation all over my body. It first started in my hands then to my legs now my back and legs. I be had MRI of the brain and cervical spine with and without contracts. My neurologist assured me it's not MS. My pain management specialist said there's a mild disc bulge that's causing the tingling in my hands. Then did a lumbar MRI with showed advanced disc dedication in L5 and S1 as well as L4, L5 disc bulge. He has concluded its stress and my spine causing all this parenthesis. I just find it hard to believe this could be the reason. I am now on 300 mg of gabapentin which is helping a little. Does anyone here have parenthesia all over?

Hi Havanauzer and welcome to MSWorld.

I do have paraesthesia, but not all over.

Your Drs. have made comments that your paraesthesia is related to your spine problems as well as stress. They may very well be right.

Bulging or herniated discs (mechanical problems of the spine) that affect the spinal cord can cause paraesthesia (abnormal sensations). There are many different reasons a person could have paraesthesia. There is no symptom(s) exclusive to Multiple Sclerosis.

    Take care.

Thank you so much for your reply, Its been extremely challenging and stressful to get over these sensations. I wanted to also add My neck has been stiff for over a year and my arms and legs are starting to become weaker. I am fully able to get thru the day but my limbs are not at all what it use to be.
My question is, does MS symptoms come on suddenly or can it also start gradually and slowly get worse? I realize my diagnose from my doctors point away from MS but with so many people waiting a long time for a diagnose, I am not convinced that my symptoms are just spinal issue.

I have TN and what you are describing does not sound like TN at all. Its just parasthesia. If you don't believe that you have symptoms related to your disc, then the best thing to do is monitor your symptoms.

Document your parasthesias, they are not worth a call. If you get any weakness, then you call. That means you probably have a lesion.

Your documentation is very important as it will be used for time and space for diagnosis if you get MS in the future.

The good news now is that you don't have it. Just be watchful of any weakness and go on with your life.

        Take care

Hello, thank you for your reply, when you say weakness, is it sudden weakness or gradual weakness that takes weeks. My legs and arms are weaker then they were a month ago. I feel like I need to sit more often. Is that considered weakness I should be concerned about?

I would suggest you discuss your disc problem with a Physician to find out if it is indeed the cause of your symptoms.

My husband had disc problem and he had muscle spasms, numbness, tingling, leg weakness and he lost most of his mobility. Surgery, physical therapy and time improved his symptoms.

            Take care.
