my process took seven years before I got a diagnosis. Every thing that came up was attributed to my diabetes. I hope this helps you. You probably have a frown on your face after reading this!please know that it does not normally take that long for a diagnosis.

It took me 21 months, seven MRI's, one LP, tons and tons of other tests, lots of ruling out other things, an unsuccessful two-week trip to Mayo Clinic with a "we think it's CNS Lupus" dx, but also a "we're not ruling out MS", multiple flares, multiple ER visits, multiple hospitalizations.

Then, five years later, on switching docs from my general neurologist to an MS Specialist, a back-in-limbo-briefly experience until I was given more tests and another MRI.

        Symptoms began in JAN02
        - Dx with RRMS in OCT03, following 21 months of limbo, ruling out lots of other dx, and some "probable stroke" and "probable CNS" dx for awhile.
        - In 2008, I was back in limbo briefly, then re-dx w/ MS: JUL08

I saw the PA at a neuro office for crazy facial pain that wasn't dental or sinus related. She said it was Trigeminal Neuralgia & sent me off for a MRI. The MRI showed clear lesions, old and new. The newer ones were causing the Trigeminal nerve to flare. Official wait time? Practically none. Shock level? Sky high.

It took about 6 months for me. I saw my regular Dr & then 2 different neurologists. The 2nd neuro dx'd me on my first visit by my mri & physical exam.

I guess the first neuro didn't want to dx's me because I was 19 at the time? She just kept testing me for EVERYTHING! My regular Dr had already said MS to me when he'd seen my mri (that he had ordered).

Anyhow by the time I got to the 2nd neuro my sx's had just been accumulating for 6 months.
