Well, I was at the MS specialist office from 8:00 a.m. yesterday until 5:15 p.m. in the evening. After being examined by his NP, the doctor came in from reviewing my MRIs and immediately said he could diagnose MS just by the MRIs alone. They were very classic.
In a nutshell, the radiologist only mentioned "several" (no def. number) and ONE large lesion in the left frontal lobe ... "none" in the Cervical Spine ... and "NO enhancing" (active) lesions. ...... WRONG!
My doctor showed me about SIX lesions in my cervical spine and several which were enhancing / active lesions at the time of my MRI. He is an MS Specialist who is also licensed as a radiologist, so he knows what he is seeing!
Also, upon physical examination, he asked when I last emptied my bladder ... I said just a few minutes ago ... before he came in. He told me to go empty again, it was still full. I went and emptied again and got back up on the exam table. STILL FULL! So .... off to a urologist, I will be going soon. In the meantime he prescribed some medication to help relax my bladder so that I can hopefully get it empty. Sure hope it doesn't make me empty TOO easily!!!
Then after HOURS and HOURS of nerve conduction (OUCH) tests (and a new glue-filled MOPHEAD coif) and VEP tests .... all of my nerves from neck to foot are messed up. (sorry am too exhausted to find correct terminology atm) Basically all messages are slow from nerves to brain and back.
In addition, he found damage in the nerve of my right eye! (just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?) He did an interesting test with a white cardboard strip that had red fabric squares on it. Upon covering and alternating between my eyes ... the square looked totally a different shade and brightness depending on which eye. WOW, what a shock that was!!! How do they come up with these tests??? So depending on which eye I am using, you may or may not want me to pick out your socks to match your outfit or not! LOL! (gotta laugh, right?)
Soon, I have to have an LP to test more diseases just to be certain nothing else is at play here but he still says everything points to MS definitively. He said I met the "criteria" just with my MRIs.
Oh, motor skills were off too. Couldn't get to my nose with left finger without taking the long way home. I know one of my legs had hyper-reflex or something like that as well. Walked like a drunk on the toe- to - toe thing.
Ok, I am totally exhausted, physically, mentally, emotionally. So much has happened today and so much is going to happen and so much to soak up! Sent me home with three boxes of meds to look at and ponder over. I'm in no hurry. Just want my bathtub, my bed, pillow, some kleenex, and my doggies! Oh and my loving hubby too who was right there all day long!
Thanks to my new MS friends! Looks like you won't be getting rid of me anytime soon!
