I do believe that this is normal for most Men. With or without MS. In medical jargon it is called "Nocturnal penile tumescence.

Though I am not sure how it can effect men with MS generated ED.

thanks for your thoughts ... i'm just really surprised about my extremes - when i'm awake no matter how i try i'm basically impotent now , yet during sleep i get erections like i'm a teen and they end the more awake or aware i become of what is happenning .. if the nerve pathway is damaged (ms) i don't feel this nightime action should happen or maybe its become a huge psychological issue for me trying to get this function back

Sorry, I think you and d.sam are quite wrong. There may be good reasons to spend a lot of time and money on psychotherapy, but fixing your ED is not one of them. Apparently nighttime erections follow a different neural pathway than regular ones. I stopped getting daytime erections several years after my first MS exacerbation, but continued getting them at night. Good news and bad news: I can get waking erections with Viagra and some help, but sex doesn't feel the same. For many years before the ED drugs, people were told that if they got nighttime erections, their problems were psychological, but now it's obvious that's not true.

ED drugs are much effective in physiological ED. Apparently ED drugs can also give erections to guys with psychological ED, but sex doesn't feel the same.

thanks frank i had never heard of that - night erections using a different pathway .. although it does'nt cheer me and i was kinda hoping i mite truely have a chance to be potent again .. this must be new reasearch on pathways ? i admit i could'nt make sense how i could be so fully erect for so long but once i got out of bed and went flat - minutes later .. i knew there was no way i could get erect again like that then or during the day afterwards
