looking for new neurologist boston area

    hi everyone,

I've been away for awhile, coping with a difficult relapse but always thinking of how each of you are doing.

Several years ago, I had to leave a neurologist who was wonderful because of insurance changes. After coping with my new neurologist for the last several years and dealing with mistakes, forgetfulness (md is elderly), losing test results, not being up to date with new therapies, refusing to write updates to my employee health regarding my relapse leave of absence, etc, etc., I am finally trying to muster the energy to start again with a new MS specialist.

I don't want to get into the same experience I have been dealing with, so was wondering if anyone had good recommendations for MS neurologists in the Boston/metrowest area. I have many names but no idea about how anyone practices. Just looking for someone/team who is thorough, up to date, and willing to do the paperwork required for me to get authorizations for my meds, progress through my long term disability, and understand my goal of continuing to work as long as I can (0nce I'm back again).

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Dr. Jacob Sloane at the BIDMC: is aggressive with treatment and his staff is good about getting paperwork done with insurance and disability.

Thank you for responding. I appreciate it. My friend had mentioned him. Was hoping to avoid the trek to Boston but may have to do it. Was hoping for more recommendations or input on neurologists in my area. Don't really know where to turn. Coming off another relapse with no one to see.

        Hey there,

I'm not sure where you are in relation to Wellesley but I go to the Elliot Lewis MS center. They just moved there (which is frustrating because it's far for me when I don't have a ride) but Dr. Katz is pretty nice and listens for the most part. The SW Jeanne helped me with a lot of paperwork, though she's not always there, and they have a staff of nurses and their own infusion room and if you're insurance covers it there's PT in the building.

Might consider checking them out. I'm happy to answer any questions about them.

I was seeing a group of doctors at the Brigham. Didn't like hiking into Boston either. I switched to the Elliott Lewis Center this year. Every happy with Dr. Lathi. Very up to date and a great listener. She is quick to respond to emails when I have any concerns. Right off of 128 in Wellesley. Highly recommend this center.

sorry for not responding sooner. Haven't been feeling well. I really appreciate your responses. I had been thinking about the Elliott Lewis center after doing some research of my own. So it's nice to hear that both of you have had some good experience with it. I'm in limbo now having not made a new appointment with my current neurologist. Can't seem to get motivated to start again or see her any longer. I know that's not good since I'm feeling worse but it's all so much work, appointments, paperwork, tests, etc.
