    MS and perimenopuase

I'm curious, how has this hormonal upheaval effected your MS?

I didn't notice perimenopause affecting any of my ms symptoms. It just bites to have them both going on at the same time.

I do have more noticeable temporary increases of MS symptoms as I approach menses than I did in my younger years.

Overall I have not seen peri-menopause affecting my MS as in "getting worse". My transitioning (peri-menopause) seems to be as normal as anyone else's at this age I actually feel better when not having my menses and I am looking forward to menopause

My MS was most active premenstrual during the inflammatory stage of my MS and brain lesion development. I had a cluster of sx, some that overlap with MS, like ON monthly, cognitive deficits, but also had hives involving my face, eyes closed, and body that were untreatable. All the sx coincided with my period.

I was dx with Cataminal Epilepsy, aka hormone epilepsy, during the inflammatory stage based on abnormal EEGs. My epilepsy specialist told me that in many cases CE is very difficult during menopause.

I had very periodic episodes for the next 10yrs., until my sx's eventually became full time, and I was dx with MS. I was in my mid 20s' when dx with CE, menopause was not on my radar. Epilepsy as presenting sx of MS happens in
2-5% of the population, plus the hormonal implications in women following childbirth, when MS exacerbations are at higher risk.
