    Medicare Supplement

Hey there everyone! I pray everyone is doing well. My Medicare goes into effect Nov. 1. I am not sure about what Part D Supplement to choose. I take Solumedrol 8-10 a years for 5-7 days, and this is costly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I do praise GOD for the Medicare card. He has been so good to me.

It really depends on where you live and what's offered to you. Using the online tool Medicare has, once you provide your information, it will tell you what's available.

I'm under 65 and went with a Medicare Supplement plan for years, which cost over $500 a month. Last year, I switched to a Medicare Advantage plan and now I pay just $120. You have to research what each covers, if your doctors and facilities are included, and if a certain plan is workable for you.

For Medicare part D, I calculated all the options and realized that I was going to hit the donut hole no matter what. So I went with the lowest premium since premiums don't count towards the out of pocket expenses.

I would make sure all of your prescriptions are covered before choosing a plan, however Medicare part D covers most of them.

For me an Advantage plan was cheaper than going with Part D. My plan covers medicines and medical costs for the price I would have paid just for meds with Plan D.

It's none of my business but I do wonder why you get Solumedrol so often a year? In Europe it's only allowed 4 times a year because of the effects in the long term... I just hope you know the effects

Advantage plans are cheaper but they restrict your choice of doctors. For me, being able to choose my own doctor is so important. With straight Medicare you don't need a referral to see a specialist. You can just walk into any doctors office whether it's a urologist, nephrologist, gastro-intestinal doctor, allergist or neurologist and get an evaluation.

I have to be in charge of my health care. Right now, I am using straight Medicare without a supplement. Most providers have some sort of co payment assistance program which means a lot of paperwork. That's my job. Managing about ten different assistance programs.

After 65, I think the options for supplements are a lot better.

Regarding the steroids, I remember how much that cost. having the nurse come to the home to do the infusion was completely covered but the pharmacy hit me with a whopping bill that was due upon delivery of the medication.

I hope you can find the right plan for you that covers both the expenses you have now and the unknowns in the future.
