So glad to hear you will be seeing a urologist! I put this off (as who really wants to see yet another specialist ), and ended up with a very serious, life threatening infection as a result.

Good luck with your appointment! [/QUOTE]

I sure hope you are better now... any chance you had negative bacteria in your urine and a lot of white blood cells? I even tried the gyno and he cleared me. Thankfully.

I do hope you are feeling better. I'm always able to squeeze my pee out only two times I felt desperate enough to consider ER but totally scared to go to hospital unless I feel I'm dying. And I'm usually pretty accurate scarily about that.

Well, good to hear you have reported this to a doctor. I just don't think this neuro is right for you, but that's MY opinion.

And I am not sure, but maybe others can address this bladder issue if you start a new thread regarding just that issue. I am not sure you have to have lesions in spinal chord to have bladder problems, but I am not sure. That is why maybe a different heading on a new thread may get you more answers regarding your bladder issues.

But to be clear, you have not had a cervical MRI right?

I will pray you get into a much better more aggressive MS neuro who will advocate in your behalf.

      Keep us posted hon,

        Hi IsThisRealLife,

Yes, I'm better now, thanks! I had just started on an antibiotic for a UTI (because I had elevated WBC on the dip stick test). The culture had not even come back yet to confirm the UTI or which bacteria it was when the bacteria entered my bloodstream. From there it went to my heart. Obviously, I recovered. But, it was pretty rough. I even had a major relapse, but couldn't be treated with steroids because of the infections (and spent the next 6 weeks on two different IV antibiotics around the clock.)

Several years earlier I had a kidney infection (from a UTI) and spent 10 days in the hospital on IV antibiotics. You'd think I would've learned something after that and gone to a urologist , but since I only had sporadic UTI's, I never went.

But a UTI isn't the only reason to be concerned about urinary retention. If the bladder gets too full, the urine can back up causing damage to the kidneys. That's why it's a medical emergency to have the bladder drained if you can't go for several hours. So, head to the ER if it happens again, even if you don't feel like you are dying.

The reason people with MS can have problems with their bladder, is because the nerve signals aren't working properly. Somewhere there is damage along that passageway from the bladder to the brain for this to happen.

"For the urinary system to do its job, muscles and nerves must work together to hold urine in the bladder and then release it at the right time. Nerves carry messages from the bladder to the brain to let it know when the bladder is full. They also carry messages from the brain to the bladder, telling muscles either to tighten or release. A nerve problem might affect your bladder control if the nerves that are supposed to carry messages between the brain and the bladder do not work properly." http://www.medicinenet.com/script/ma...=113254&page=1

Sometimes, like with mjan, it takes a while for lesions to show up on a MRI. That has to be the most frustrating part of waiting for a diagnosis that explains what is going on! I do hope your doctors figure out what is causing your problems, soon, and a 2nd opinion does sound warranted IMO (along with a cervical spine MRI).

In the meantime, please keep your appt. with the urologist, OK? And will you let us know how that goes?

        Take care ,
        Kimba
