    weird tongue sensations

I am undiagnosed having symptoms for a few years now. I first started with a very dry mouth and burning tongue. I now get this feeling of a thick texture on my tongue and roof of my mouth. I have good hygiene and have no film or anything just an odd sensation its there almost all the time.

Sometimes to I have a cold sensation on the roof of my mouth and the inside of my lips. Anyone else have this?

I don't have those particular symptoms, but I do have many tongue symptoms as the result of brainstem lesions. This is where many tongue symptoms come from and by nature are on one side of the tongue or the other at one time. For example: I have had burning or numbness of the tongue, but it is split right down the middle of the tongue due to the way the brainstem is wired. The lips and face in MS are usually the same way...one side or the other at a time. There are other conditions that cause lip and tongue symptoms simultaneously. Vitamin deficiencies and other things.

Have you been checked out by a neurologist? If not, it might warrant a visit if this is something that is lingering. At least a visit to the PCP for blood tests.

Wish you all the best! Let us know how it goes.

      hmm

The tongue sensation I get is not just on one side it is more the middle of my tongue and either side does not seem to be affected. I have seen an ms specialist im in Canada. He said probable ms not enough evidence to diagnose me yet. I have a few nonspecific lesions and mostly suffer from burning arms and weakness on the right side.

I have another MRI coming up September 7th so we will see what that one tells. My first repeat mri was 6 months after with no change and this one will be 1 year from the last.

The mouth sensations are the most bothersome.

I went for a year with burning tongue. No one seemed to take notice until I stopped eating and talking. I lost a lot of weight and the only thing I could stomach was Boost Nutritional Drinks.

My neuro finally took notice over the weight loss and 4 doctors later, it took an ENT specialist to figure it out. It was MS. Who would of thought? Seriously a burning tongue caused by MS???

1 pill of Neurontin and I was feeling relief. I am no longer on Neurontin, because the symptom remitted. Talk to your Neuro about it.

          thanks

I take gabapentin already for the burning it does not help much but im scared to stop it incase it is helping and the burning gets worse. When I first started to have symptoms I had a burning tongue now it doesn't burn but I get the weird thick texture feeling its annoying and its right down the middle of my tongue.

I often get facial weakness or tightness in my jaw when I eat something that takes some effort to chew.
