leg spasms worse with bi-pap mystery...

I have MS (for 29 years now, am secondary progressive), for the last few months I have been trying to use a Bi-pap machine. One of the main problems I have not figured out how to overcome or why it is happening is my leg spasms are worse whenever I use the machine.

Without the machine 40mg of baclofen is generally enough to allow me to sleep. With it I need at least 60, sometimes 80. The increased dosage makes me noticeably weaker, so is not something I like needing to do.

The sleep specialist I see has no ideas why this is happening, neither does my neurologist (which surprises me, he is not a general neuro, but a MS specialist.)

I would love to at least know why this is happening. Let me know if any further info about me or the bi-pap settings I use may help to figure this out.

I use a CPAP, but I'm a newbie at it, so I've been reading quite a few articles about sleep, seeing my test showed no Rem sleep during the sleep study. I had Stage II sleep for 90% of the night. Thus the CPAP.

But, I have come across a few articles discussing nocturnal leg cramps. They say they are more prevalent during sleep. Just a guess but maybe, if you're sleeping more with the Bi-PAP, you getting more cramps as a consequence.

My CPAP has flared up my TN, and I'm hoping that will pass, and I know a CPAP or Bi-PAP can flare up TMJ problems.

There's a great CPAP/BiPap forum...go join and ask your question, it's a very active forum, and they know a lot about the intricacies of the machines and consequences.

    It's called cpaptalk.com.

Hope you get it figured out and relieved.
