    newly diagnosed with MS

    Hello,
I read your posts and I feel comfortable to share my question. After an onset of ON (which my neuro-ophthalmologist suggested I should leave untreated) I was just diagnosed with MS. My MRI and my LP confirmed the diagnose but my neurologist told me that it's a very early stage and I should decide whether to go on treatment or just wait?!?. She also gave me a list of medications to choose from?!?

I am so confused and I need your advice. I scheduled for a second opinion with a MS specialist, and meanwhile I started taking supplements (D-3, B-12, fatty acids, magnesium, ALA) what else should I do to relieve the panic? I feel so scared. Thank you for your support

Hello hrisi17 and welcome to MSWorld.

Some neuros prefer a wait and see approach and some have the patient start treatment immediately. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society recommends patients start treatment ASAP.

In the end it is up to the patient. There is no guarantees with or without treatments. It is also very common for you, the patient, to choose which treatment you would like to use.

MS is the only disease, that I am aware of, in which the patient chooses their own treatment, but as I said, it's common.

      Hello and Welcome hrisi!

Being newly diagnosed, you're bound to go through tons of emotions. Have you thought of counseling? It's a whole lot to deal with. Having a good support system helps!

You can also try meditation or relaxing techniques. That didn't work for me in the beginning and I found that being able to talk to someone made a big difference.

I was on this site day in and day out, reading everything I could. I saw that was I was going through was normal under the circumstances.

Knowledge is power! The more you learn about MS, the more you will feel in control.

Feel free to browse through the forums. Don't be shy to post any questions you may have. We're all in this together and were here to help each other out.
When I can laugh at my experiences, I own them and they don't own me!
