    Overheating? Freeze your socks!

I found this post from last summer when I was looking for something else and wanted to share it because it was really helpful when I got overheated. I'd forgotten all about it, but I may have to go home and freeze a pair of socks!

Last night, I got overheated. I felt like I was burning up! I'm not sure what was going on, because I had the A/C down, but I was just melting, especially my feet. (My feet are like thermostats. If they're hot, then the rest of me is hot. If I can cool my feet off, then I'll be cool all over.)

I finally decided to wet a pair of socks, stick them in a Ziplock bag and throw them in the freezer. I got them out about half an hour later, and though it was tough to get them on (because they were frozen stiff), I finally did. I put a towel over the end of my recliner and just sat there with these frozen socks on. And it felt so good!!! I kept them on for almost an hour before finally taking them off. (I didn't walk around in them.) By then, I had cooled down quite a bit and felt much better.

Just thought I'd share this, in case anyone wants to try it when they get overheated.

Cut aspartame from my diet in 2012 and my symptoms have slowly disappeared. Interesting!

Thanks for posting this Shashi I remember seeng this post, bur had forgotten.

I'm sitting here in my hot house and my feet are killing me!! I also have a bad case of neuropathy in my feet, so with that pain it feels like they're on fire. I'm going to put my socks in the freezer right now! My hands feel the same way and typing is really hard with these sensations. Wonder if I put my gloves in along with my socks it would help too?? why not?

I have so much trouble changing my socks, but I like the idea.

That is a good idea....I wonder how my feet would do with that. At night I take a hot water bottle and fill it with cold water and put my feet on it. Relief!

Be sure your socks are wet when you freeze them. They'll stay cold longer that way, though you may need a towel under your feet as they start thawing out.

Better yet- I sent away for soft fleece slippers that can be microwaved or frozen, depending on what you need. So far I have only used them from the freezer and love them. They don't get stiff at all. I ordered them from
www.lakeside.com I think they were $5.95 last year. I also ordered a hot/cold therapeutic wrap for $8.95. I use it in the winter and put it nice and warm on my shoulders. Good investments!!

I tried the frozen socks last night...initially they felt really good, but after the 5 minutes it took for them to thaw they just felt like warm soggy socks...

Maybe those slippers that CasinoKathy posted about will be a better choice...I'm off to check out the link.

Kathy, those slippers sound great, but I can't find them at that link. What exactly are they called?

                        reply for Shashi

Not sure what they were called, so I went back to my original post under assisted devices back on 10/1011, last post there was 3/20/12.

They are called "Hot Sox Therapeutic Slippers". Just the other day my feet were burning and had hubby get them out of the freezer (I keep them there all the time in a ziplock bag) and put them on my achy feet. Boy, it felt so good, especially when he squeezes them. AHHHH- pure HEAVEN!!! I ordered them in navy blue- (mens) because I liked the darker color. Can't remember what the womens were - red or maybe pink. Hope they still make them!!

                            My DIL posted this recently:
                            http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/12/c...a-omni-freeze/

It is for athletes but I wonder if it would work for us as well.

Frozen socks won't work for me. My feet are cold all the time anyway! (But microwave socks sound interesting)
