This past Spring and the beginning of this Summer have been rough. I landed in the inhospitable two times (extended days at a time, not my personal choice). Two relapses that they told me was a result from the gorgeous lesions on my spine. So sick of doctors ( four neuro specialist that are great people that communicate really well together). I guess my question is that I would like to know if anyone has experienced times when they can not sleep? Its like I can't turn my brain off! Also does anyone have advice on dealing with extreme arm pain? Peace to all

My neuro gave me an RX for 10mg Valium when I brought up getting to sleep. He says it works well in combination with the gabapentin I already take and was safe for occasional use.
I can't say it works better than Ambien, but 1/2 pill of Valium & 600mg of gabapentin almost always does the trick...1st sx 11/26/09; Copaxone from 12/1/11 to 7/13/18

Besides meds, structure helps me.
I go to bed at the same time every nite.
Put my pj's on and take night meds. Climb in bed w book to read for about 20 mins. This lets me calm down a bit.
Dark, cold, quiet room.
Deep breathing. Slowly breath in and out as deeply as you can. This helps turn off my brain because I have to focus on the breathing.
If I don't fall asleep w/in 15-20 mins, I get out of bed for a little while and try again later.
Give it a try.....can't hurt!Dx 3/4/12. Tec X 2 as of 7/7/13
Weebles wobble and occasionally they DO fall down!

I have times that I can't sleep. It's like you describe, I can't shut off my brain. Now that I'm back on Gilenya after a month away when my insurance changed, I'm sleeping better. I don't know if the Gilenya is why, but I feel like I have a little more energy during the day too.Dx 12/2006; first symptoms about 1984, but maybe earlier--on Gilenya and Ampyra.

My neuro put me on Temazepam for the "can't turn off my brain" sleep issue. It works well, keeping me sleeping through the night. My problem is that after 2 nights of taking it, I start itching in weird places.Brenda

I am right there with you on this on, still in DX process....tried the valium, they now have me taking a 75mg lyrica along with 350mg soma. Not really doing the trick of helping me sleep but is sure helping me with the severe leg cramps in my left leg. Left leg getting worse and worse seems daily. The swelling tho is not stopping, and the feeling of someone squeezing too tight on my left leg.
I so hope you find relief.....sending healing hugs to ya!

I tried a bunch of the meds and didn't get real satisfaction. I found out about LDN and the world was not so scary anymore. The only problem is my PCP did not and does not know about it.
I consulted a 'naturopath' MD that does prescribe it and all's well. I always recommend this drug for sleep problems. I think it has something to do with getting the brain to regulate endorphin production.

My doctor prescribed a half a ml of xanax to fall asleep. It works. But I agree with the Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN). I get longer, more refreshing sleep from that. My MS Specialist prescribed it for me after I asked him. Before that I bought it from out of the country.
I hope you can find something that can help you soon. The racing thoughts are no fun.I don't fall, the floor attacks me. The corner of the bed is in on it too.

I'm with you on the lack of sleep during a relapse. I'm pretty sure I'm in the middle of a relapse right now (Dr's appt is tomorrow), and I'm awake at 2 AM even though I'm exhausted. I recommend the LDN as well, although I'm proof it doesn't *always* work to help you sleep. Naltrexone, normal bedtime and routine, a cool room for sleeping all help. I also have a white noise app on my phone to drown out the world, as MS has made a light sleeper of me.

(the app is Sleep Machine, btw)
