    Retina Specialist

I thought I had experienced every medical test known to mankind until now. I have a referral appointment to a Retina Specialist Monday. When they called to confirm the appointment The young lady said be prepared to stay 2-3 hours for extensive testing.

Has anyone been to Retina Specialist that can tell me what I may be subjected to? I do not know what could possibly take 3hours!

i think that will partially be determined by what they are testing you for. i can attest that seeing a retina specialist does take a long time. most of the time is spent waiting. waiting for your eyes to dilate, waiting to be sent to one room for one test then back out the to the waiting room to wait for another set of tests. none of it was painful or difficult or even all that stressful and the retina specialist that i saw spent a good deal of time with me discussing things before he began examining me. i wouldn't worry too much it takes a long time but is not a big deal after the eye drops are in.

This exactly. There are many tests, all of which the doctor reviewed before selecting further tests, and lots of waiting in between. My retinal specialist even had a second waiting room behind the scenes for those of us dilating or waiting for the next test to begin.

It was very useful, very informative, and well worth it, though. I hope you feel the same when your appointment is over!

92 year old mom sees on

My 92 year old mother has AMD, age related macular degeneration, and sees a retinal specialist twice a year (since she's stable). The first visit was long and she had a injection (in the arm) that colored the blood vessels in the eyes, then they took pictures of the eyes. I got to see the "pictures" and it was very interesting and as I recall it didn't hurt her. He went over the pictures with her discussing her condition. She did great! And he is very good.

              Hello Redwings

My appt. went well. No problems with the retina everything looked in good order, to keep simple. Thanks for asking!! As it tuned out I spent about 2 hours waiting, 40 minutes of testing, and maybe 20 minutes of facetime with the Doc.

When the appt was verified the clerk made it sound like I would testing for the large portion of the visit. Not so!
