    Can I possibly have MS

Sorry in advance because I'm sure people come here worrying quite often and it can't be easy to answer the same questions over and over. I've had a wide variety of symptoms.

About 7 months ago I started with a numb/tingly feeling on the left side of my face. It would often feel cold or hurt. I also began feeling a little tingle on my right pinky toe (it felt like there was a piece of tape stuck to it or something). Down the side of my right leg I felt a warm sensation and my back had a cold sensation. I had trouble dealing with temperature and felt like something was wrong with my circulation. I went to the doctor and my blood pressure was higher than it had ever been and I was put on a blood pressure medication. I was also sweating inappropriately and my hands were always clammy. I also felt a strong burning feeling down the side of my neck. I am not currently experiencing these symptoms although they have appeared intermittently since then.

About 5 months ago I suddenly noticed my arm felt really heavy or disconnected almost...the dexterity and usability of my left hand was destroyed...when I even tried to grip a salad tong my hand shook. This sent me to the emergency room and a neurologist for tests. They did a brain MRI, a spine and neck MRI and a lumbar puncture. The MRI's found nothing unusual and the lumbar puncture was normal except for a higher than normal WBC (7...normal range is 0-5). They didn't think I was weak in that arm or hand so nothing else came of this. My hand and arm recovered over several weeks and I was able to type properly again and use that hand...it's still a bit weaker than the right hand and if I grip an object firmly it shakes. There is a slight tremor in my fingers when I spread them out as well. Everyone on my left side seems more sensitive than the right...more sensitive to pain for example. The neurologist noted brisk reflexes on my left side.

Around the same time I started getting unbelievably nauseated and dizzy and had pain in my left eye...I felt like I could barely balance at all and was so dizzy I could barely get out of bed. The nausea was powerful and nothing seemed to help. I had my ears tested and a test of my eyes following a laser. He said my eyes suddenly jerked once but he didn't think it was clinically significant. Out of the corner of my eye it is kind of blurry (kind of a fishbowl effect).

The dizziness subsided over a few weeks but I began having serious gastrointestinal issues that culminated in a diagnosis of gastroparesis. I have read this is caused by damage to the autonomic nervous system.

In the middle of summer I began suffering from horrible chills. If even a ceiling fan was on my teeth would chatter horribly. I wasn't getting a fever. This problem has since subsided.

I began noticing random burning sensations all over my abdomen...not on the inside..on the surface of the skin. This has also subsided.

About a month ago at night I felt like my blood pressure shot sky high..I got a horrible headache and pain in my left eye and felt dizzy. The next few days my left eye hurt a lot. The next day the dexterity in both my hands was so bad I could barely type at all. Trying to do fine tasks was nearly impossible due to tremoring and I panicked.

I noticed my muscles twitching in my legs and got even more freaked out after looking up ALS and other diseases. I went back to my neurologist and she did the standard reflex tests and strength...brisk reflexes on both sides but no weakness. She did an EMG and said there was some very slight abnormalities...due to my fear of ALS she referred me to an ALS specialist and I have a repeat EMG on thursday although he said my EMG isn't clinically significant and I'm strong as an ox and I don't have ALS.

The specialist looked in my eyes with a light and commented that the left eye was "a little white". I'm not sure what this means?

Over the past few weeks I have been twitching in my muscles quite a bit..pretty much everywhere. My arms and legs sometimes jerk randomly and I have a slight tremor with doing some fine tasks.

My wide variety of sensory and autonomic symptoms as well as my symptoms waxing and waning lead me to believe that this can't be stricty a motor issue. My vitamin D level was found to be 11 and I have read that low vitamin D is linked to MS and this is very low.

I'm wondering if this can possibly be MS even with the negative MRIs 5 months ago?

I should add that I'm male and just turned 28 years old.

Some of the things you describe could be MS, but there are a lot of other diseases that cause symptoms like MS. You will need to work with your doctors to figure out what your diagnosis is. There are a number of posters here who have described normal MRI's but still they were diagnosed with MS, based on other test results, plus their medical history and physical examination.

Though low Vitamin D is associated with MS, I don't think there is currently evidence to show that low Vitamin D causes MS. Still, a low level of Vitamin D should usually be treated with high doses of Vitamin D for 2 - 3 months, then be rechecked to be sure it is back in the normal range.
