    good morning

I"m sorry to hear you were denied also...... it certainly isn't easy....... I had to fill out roughly 30 pages of what i cook or don't, what i do or dont' do, my daily routine, symptoms, drugs i'm on you name it........ on and on the list went....

my neuros' keeping me at rrms due to insurance reasons...... so there's the snag also... i've just applied for insurance. my husband had to fill out a 30 page thing also, i gave two references who they called and they talked to about me, my neuro was perfect on his end as was my gp and even the therapist i see every mos. since i was dx'd popped myself in there, bc i also have a special needs child and i knew it would be a rough processing and i wanted to go through the stages at light speed which i did.......

i hope you get yours....... we'll see i'm calling an attny i'm not doing the appeal myself they put me through too much the first time out. i also had a pysch thing as well for memory which i failed miserably..... I don't have flairs anymore i'm in it everyday which at least there are no surprises always a plus to something! they'll also owe me from 7 mos ago that should bea nice size chk when i get approved...

it's all about money @ the end of the day. what state are you from? here we just apply to one place...

Jen, and others, look up ALLSUP. Its an organization that helps folks get disability and their record is within 4 months.

When I was on short term disability, somehow, it automatically went to longterm (due to MDs reports on my conditions) and that's how Allsup found me. I heard of them and knew they accomplish their goal in 4 months. In my case I didn't want the rush because I stood to gain more $$ from disability and my widow's check then with SSDI.

If you do contact them, let me know and I'll give you my last name as they want a referral source.

Disability Attys do collect either 1/3 or 25% or your settlemnt. I never needed one. BUT I Had many diagnoses AND mostly because I was 62 when I got approved. They do not want to pay out when you are under 50..so it really doesn't matter how good your case is..thats why they contract with specialists who will say nearly anything to make sure you CAN work.

Please try not to get too discouraged as its not YOU, its probably your age.

      Good luck hon,

I'm in Maine. The state disability office is used by the Fed folks to process the claim to begin with but I still had to fill out two different forms, one for the state and one for the Fed. The state won't accept the application unless I filed for the Fed. The only thing the state disability does is pay for medical--no check to me or anything like that. I never see the $. They make payments directly to hospital and pharmacy.

When I asked for the reconsideration after being denied though it went to Kentucky for processing. Seems like it's taking forever. It's been 7 or 8 months for me too. Don't know what I would have done if I were a single mom. Haven't been able to work for two years. I actually waited a year to apply because I thought I had to. I read later that's not the case.

Here's hoping it comes through for you too, and soon, Sunshine!

MJAN--Thanks for the information! Is this ALLSUP a group of attorneys that you were talking about that take 1/3 - 25% of the settlement?

im sorry to hear soo long for you as well soo insane, right?

Jan thanks for the info again!

i'm calling an attny tmrw i can't go through the stress of it again on my own, i have too many other balls in the air right now.

I didn't even tell them i was about to begin college back than, they didnt' ask i didnt' share........ i can only imagine they would of denied me on the spot.

I could try to work yet I dont' think I could handle that and my daughter. If i were single w/o kids i might be able to as long as i could return home and crash till the nxt day. yet her needs are too severe for me to even attempt that. I failed the last two jobs. My last position i had to leave, I had to take two medical leaves because I was having some strange issues and no one could nail it. I knew i wasnt' nuts lol.

It was quite the juggling act bc my daughter goes to therapy 2x a week, and there are often mtgs at her school ihave no choice and have to attend. so it's always a juggling act.

          we'll see......

I've heard that most people are denied the first time they apply, so by all means, appeal your denial - with a disability attorney if necessary.

Since SSDI is a federal program, if you need political help, it is probably better to contact one or both of your senators in Washington, DC.

SSDI is stressed because of current high unemployment - many people laid off would and could prefer to work if they could get a job, but since they can't...well everyone over 40 or 50 has some aches and pains and quite likely some diabetes, high blood pressure, or even MS. So they apply for SSDI since they can't get a job.

"Regular" Social Security could be fixed pretty easily - just apply the tax to all income, instead of eliminating the tax once you reach $110,000 annually or whatever it is currently. That would close 75% of the alleged "gap." Politicians inside the Beltway have a hard time with the truth.

But while they're avoiding the hard stuff, get your politician to help you get what you need!

The age related funds are predicted to run out in 2035 and the fund for SS disability are set to run out much sooner than that, i cant remember exactly when it was but it's before or in the 2020's. 2018?

This thread has been very unsettling to me when it is added to the news of the super committee & deficit.

One thing is certain SS is a political process & the ease of applying depends on the political climate at the time & this is a very difficult political climate for those that have the misfortune to be applying now. Their road is much more difficult than those who applied at an earlier time , were older than 50 with a ms diagnosis, had less education...ect.

but it has caused me to go to the SS site to verify my information.

the SS trust funds(combined) will be exhausted in 2036 at that time 77% of benefits will be payable an additional $7.5 trillion will be needed to pay schedule benefits---so i believe onlyairfare is correct in her anylisis.
