    I finally gave in

Today I wanted to go to Hobby Lobby and get some new Christmas decorations, and I knew that walking in and out of the store would be a real chore. So last night I asked hubby if he didn't go bowhunting this morning (if it was raining) if he would put my transport chair in the trunk of my car and take me in the store with it.

Well, it was a light mist (YEE-HAA)!! so he and the son decided not to go till this afternoon. So off to the store we went. And I have to say, that I am so glad that I finally gave in and used the chair as it was so much easier and enjoyable for me. I had a store shopping basket on my lap and had it piled so high I could hardly see anymore!

We bought this chair a couple years ago and it has just been collecting dust since. I still walk as much as I can and use my recumbent exercise bike most days, do my leg stretches and such too. But we got this chair to make things easier for me, so why oh why did it take me so long to admit that yes, there are times when I could really use it? Yea- I know why--cause I feel like ms is winning that's why!! But it can only win if I let it right??!!!!!

i like that you used an example of preparing for the future but not using your preparation for a while until it was needed but was there when it was useful...

You could decorate it with some of your new Christmas decorations - lights and tinsel and sparkly things!

Seriously though, good for you for giving it a try. Anything that conserves your energy to let you do the things you want to do is a good thing.

I am glad you gave in and enjoyed yourself.

I have a transport chair and a scooter and although I felt bad I had to have them I was also glad I did have them because I felt MS wasn't winning. If we sit in the house and not get out and enjoy ourselves no matter what we use then I feel MS is winning.

          Enjoy your Christmas decorations.

Good for you! Sometime we have to give in to what our body is telling us. It's not like we are giving up it's more like we are taking a break. everyone needs to take a break every now and again.

There are times when I go shopping with my DW, not often but I do go, that I wish I had some type of chair. I guess one day I will take that break myself.

BTW I love going to Hobby Lobby. My DW told me that I am probably the only man that loves going to Hobby Lobby. I like to collect frames and crosses and they have a great selection at times.

              I like your thought process

I like the way you are thinking. ms isn't winning if you use what is available.

              Thanks for setting me straight

Good for you, Casino, for using an assistive devise when you needed it. They are so handy and never again will I doubt using one myself. don't know if I ever posted this before (cog fog today), but I got a rollator walker this summer and used it for the first time at a Sat. farmer's market. I was reluctant b/c I didn't want to see anyone I knew and have to answer questions, etc. about my progression. I braved it and so glad I did. It was sooooooooo crowded there but with the walker, people were kind and moved aside....so much so that I felt like Moses parting the Red Sea !!! AND I was able to see all of the market and go the distance

Here's to making life easier!!! Take care now.

Hey Kathy- Next time you go to Hobby Lobby pick up some spray paint and some blue or green masking tape.

You and DH could put a real cool paint job on it and it may be more fun to drive?
Something like a biker motif may fit your lifestyle better?

It is easy and can look pretty slick and you may have a lot of fun with it. I painted one like a tiger and everybody loved it. It lost the "Old Fart" look and was a way to make it mine.

so glad you used it....It feels good to be out doesn't it? That way you can do more and I know you do not like to sit in the house.

It is a hard decesion to h ave to use any aid, but once you do, you have overcome a big emotional issue.

I want a scooter for when I visit dd, but I do not think thy will prescribe one yet. I just think they are cool

                        Hi Kathy,

You should not think of it as giving in, instead you are choosing enjoyment over vanity.

LOL, I guess it’s good that MS helps us conquer that 1 of the 7 Deadly Sins, Shame it makes sloth harder to conquer.

                          Giving in to the MS

October was a month for me. It started when I slipped in the kitchen and hit my left hand on the counter. Ended up breaking my middle finger on my left hand. Had it re-set then a splint made. Good thing I'm right handed BUT my body just seemed to fall apart. Not going into anymore details.

Saw the MS doctor & got a prescription for a second 4 wheel walker. Ins did pay for it. Now I have one for inside and out. My poor husband had to carry the one I had up & down every time I went out last month. Stress had really messed up my balance. I also asked for a stair lift prescription. Next week we will check them out.

Living above my husband's business is nice but climbing the stairs when I'm weak and my left hand with the splint--wow, it's been hard.

speaking of your transport chair, back some years I got a good lightweight wheelchair with my insurance so we could go to fairs and fun events like that.

So if MS gets me, I'm ready now to fight back. It was nice you got to go shopping. Can't believe X-mas is around the corner.
