I do this a LOT. My family's favorite example: I spilled the ashtray at my desk, and asked my son to what I thought was bring me the broom - what I actually said was bring me the spoon. And for some reason, knowing I needed a broom, like a good son he brought me a spoon. This is example was shortly after I was diagnosed. It's my family's favorite example because it's the only one I actually remember, it's been recounted so many times. So when my kids get a word mixed up, they call it "pulling a mom". I also reverse words, lose a train of thought mid sentence, and other things.
When I lose a word, I try describing what I mean, but they get frustrated when what I'm describing doesn't actually match totally up with what I mean, so the words they suggest don't fit.
One thing that I HATE - I'll be typing, and my eyes will drift up to the line above it, and I'll substitute a word from the line above for a word that I'm typing.
For me, it's definitely not age. I'm 37. And oddly enough, I've found that I have trouble remembering my age...right before my birthday, I started adding an extra year to my age. I was substituting my husband's age for mine....I don't know what my excuse is now, because he's not 38 anymore, and I'm not 38 yet!
And it took me proofreading this three times before I felt relatively confident that I could send it out!
