    Need Some Information about Canes

I have problems walking and it has been getting worse. I think keeping my balance, or what I have left of balance, is a major issue. My legs not wanting to move is another.

A regular cane doesn't work very well, so I rarely use it, but lately, I know I need something. I saw a cane with four prongs at the bottom, a quad? Does anyone use this? Is it better for you than a regular cane? And how is it obtained?

I need some info. Please let me know about your experiences with it. Thanks!

I think you'd do well to talk with a physical therapist. You can get a script to meet with one from your doctor. A PT will let you know which device is most appropriate for you, fit you & show you how to use it. She'll also help with balance exercises.

I tried a quad cane for a while because I was able to borrow one. I found that it didn't work well for me because the wider bottom kept getting in my way.

Your insurance might pay for a cane for you or you can get one fairly inexpensively from a medical supply store. They would also help you get the right length & you could walk around the store using different styles. If you want to splurge, there are some very pretty ones on line at Fashionable Canes.

I agree that talking to a PT is a great idea. Ask your Dr. for a script to refer you.I did use a quad cane for a while & liked it,but I've had to go to a Rollator. My Dr. wrote a script for one & insurance paid.
God Bless, keep us posted, Nona Judy

Check out FashionableCanes dot com for some ideas. I got a simple cane to help with balance a few years ago. They have some really cute ones, too!

            Strongly suggest forearm crutch(es)

I used various canes until late last year when an orthopedics specialist at UCSF suggested forearm crutches. At the time I was trying a Walkaide which I later bought.

            She was right!

The crutches are more visible, but much more effective and easier to get around with than any of the canes I used these past six or seven years. I have strong hands, wrists and arms, but walk and balance better now.
