    spasticity

    Hi everyone
I know I post here alot and I have not been diagnosed as of yet, I hope you all don't mind limbo- land questioners.
you all are so helpful and I really appreciate it!

I do not take anything for this all over spasticity(I'm assuming thats what it is) my legs and arms are so tight I can't stand it...so painful. I wanted to ask what medication you take for it, I think I've read bacaflon(sp?) and when you started on it was it a godsend to help with this?

I'm praying the dr. gives me something to help with this spasticity..walking is so hard and trying to use my arms is miserable also. also in the my torso(well everywhere this stiffness is!)
thanks so much for reading, Linda

Spasticity sure is tough to manage. I take flexeril as needed, I'm lucky I don't need something every day. I tried neurontin once and loved it, but it made me too sedated. I will try it again if I get worse.

I get a massage every two weeks, it is covered by my insurance. I stretch every day, I think it is important to stay as flexible as you can. I use a tens unit often.

Flexeril is a mild muscle relaxer, you may get more relief from something stronger like neurontin or baclofen.

I use baclofen and tramadol as needed for the pain the combo of the two help with the sparsity. I can not stress the importance of exercise and stretching to try to keep the muscles from atrophying. Everyone can do some type of stretching and exercise start slow and do what you can.

Spasticity is painful for sure!! I take 30 mil a day and it really keeps it away! Except on this past Saturday I forgot 1 pill- take 3 a day, 2 when I first get up and another in early afternoon. Well, I forgot the afternoon one, and boy did I ever regret it the next day and my legs were really tight and uncomfortable! Boy,what a difference that made!

Sure hope your doctor gives you something to relieve all your pain- as spasticity is no picnic!!! Casino

ooh- I hear you. I soo overdid it this past weekend. Spasticity is such a pain.

I take the generic form of Zanaflex at night (because it knocks me out, but it works the best for my spasticity) and then I have Baclofen for during the day.

Oh thank you all for the replys, you all are the best!
if the insurance covers it I would love a tens unit, boy that gets your muscles loosened up! can't even sleep at night I'm sooo spazed up
one more question , if the dr. orders baclofen I hope it doesn't sedate you and make ya feel spacey, I tried other muscle relaxers and hate that feeling. thank you all so much for the replys I have emg tomorrow and the neuro is the one doing it, maybe he will give me some insight. HAVE A GOOD ONE Linda

I know my neuro prescribes TENS units for patients, he kept sidestepping my request for one, so I just bought a new one off the internet. It is important to know the proper way to use one, where to put the electrodes, and to not put them in certain places. This is the one I got and I'm very pleased with it:

I take 10mg of Baclofen three times a day. I started out with 5mg and moved up this a low dose. When I first started it made me feel a little sleepy but that went away very soon. Good luck.
