    Help Please

Hi..I have not been officially diagnosed, but I am sure I will be in May when they do my 2nd MRI.
I was ill in January, vomiting and hospitalized until mid-February. I got the 5 days of steroids then. I went numb on the right side of my face, had optic problems, vertigo, problems walking etc.
I thought the symptoms would go away, but a month later I am still getting very bad symptoms! Why and will they ever go?
    Thanks for your feedback!

Hi CindyLou, boy, sounds like you have been having a rough time with all those symptoms! Sorry I can't give you an answer about how long they will last, as everyone is different.

MS or something else, I know how much you just want some answers. I've been there. Is it possible to get in sooner for that MRI? May is along time away when your going thru all this. Good luck, come back and let us know what you found out. Casino

Hi CasinoKathy...yes I have been going through a rough time. I am 48 and this is my first flare up and it is a doozy. They said that they wanted to wait 3 months before doing the 2nd MRI?

Hi, I'm sorry you're having to go through such a rough time. Sometimes symptoms do go away, or they may lessen to a more bearable level. Sometimes they may stay for awhile or be joined by new symptoms. That's the problem with MS, there's no rhyme or reason to it.

What was the results of your first MRI? Have you had other testing for any of the many other conditions which can mimic MS?

I hope you get some answers and some relief soon.

        Hugs,

        Lisa

I know how you feel. I had a flare-up like that about a year ago, was still on steriods when I woke up one morning and couldn't walk at all, I was hospitalized for a week, pumped full of IV steriods and then home with steriods. I was on a walker for about 2-3 wks then I used a cane and now I only have to use the cane on "bad" days and during flare-ups. I can't remember how long the optic stuff lasted. But the last two days I've had the eye twitching (feels like on the inside), blurred vision, throbbing inthe eye ball, and my eye waters. Hope you get some relief

I went to my PCP today and I am having another optic attack although not as bad as last time, and I too am now on steriods, had to take 8 ten mg today and then one less a day till at 1 and the 1 for 1 week, total of 15 days. YUCK!! I have felt like crap since I took the steriods, it jacked my sugar up tonight, I'm not dibetic and it was in the 260's!! I called my doc and she said she wasn't worried about it because of the steriods, but this craps for the birds!! They also gave me some pain meds, YAY!!!

But this too shall pass!! Hang in there sweetie!!

                Attention Shashi

Hi Shashi...this is what my MRI had to say...T2/FLAIR hyper intense lesion in the right middle and superior cerebellar peduncles. Other foci of hyper intensity were noted in the periventricular distribution, worse on the left side. What doe that mean?

                  MRI TRANSLATIONS

                  CINDYLOU>
IT'S BEST YOU HAVE YOUR DOCTOR TRANSLATE...
BUT THIS IS HOW I AM READING IT. YOUR MRI MAY BE SHOWING A CURRENT FLARE. YOU MAY KNOW THIS BUT WHAT YOU ARE FEELING IN YOU BODY. WITH ME, I SOMETIME DON'T EVEN REALIZE WHEN I'M IN A FLARE ON ANY OUTWARD BODY SIGHS, SUCH AS VISION, OR MAYBE WALKING ABILITY. IF YOU HAVE HAD A PREVIOUS MRI, IT SEEMS IT COMPARES YOUR LESIONS TO PREVIOUS MRI AS POSSIBLY HAVING MORE.
YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE CERTAIN PORTIONS OR WORDS OF YOUR MRI RESULT TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT SOME THING MEANS OR ARE.
BEST THING IS TO ASK DR. AND PLAN YOU COURSE OF ACTION TO YOUR MRI.

Cindy Lou, I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but from what I know and understand as a former nurse and a current patient who has had many MRIs and done a lot of research on MS, your MRI indicates that you have brain lesions in your cerebellum and also around the ventricles in your brain, which are locations usually consistent with MS. It doesn't necessarily mean that any of these areas are active, unless the MRI was done with contrast and they are enhancing, which isn't indicated.

But, you really need to talk to your doctor about the results and have him or her explain it to you. Only your doctor can make the determination as to what is going on. Hopefully you'll get more answers when you have your next MRI. If not, get a second (or third, if necessary) opinion.

                    Good luck and hugs,

                    Lisa
