Would my neuro be able to address this?

I have a regular check up with my neuro this week. I was diagnosed with MS about 8 years ago.

For the last year or so, I've been struggling with a clearing my throat "thing." I originally thought it was a post nasal drip issue, since I've always had allergies and nothing seems to clear up my post nasal drip, but then I realized that it's not just that. I clear my throat a lot, whether I "need" to or not. It's driving me crazy, but I can't seem to stop it.

It's odd though, because I don't do it in certain situations (test taking, classes, my internship), etc. But as soon as I'm in the car or at home, it starts and pretty much doesn't stop until I go to bed.

I don't know if it's a tic or an OCD thing or what? Is this something, in your opinion, that my neuro could help with?

I just did a search for chronic throat clearing, knowing I've heard this complaint before, and lots of info popped up. You sure are not alone. I'd read up on it and I'd probably ask the neuro if he's come across any other patients that have this. Doesn't hurt to ask.

      Hi Leenie:
Not being a throat specialist, your neurologist will probably not deal with your throat clearing him/herself. Instead, your neuro will probably refer you to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist for evaluation.

Since you don't clear your throat in certain situations (when your mind is occupied with other things) and don't seem to have control of it when your mind isn't otherwise occupied, it suggests that there is some mental component to it.
