WII EXERCISE & CHECKIN GROUP 2/10/2011

WOW!!! WHAT A WAY TO START THE MONTH!!!

    GOALS MADE:
NINE AND THAT'S WITH 3 WITH EXTRAS!!!

    YA'LL ARE SUPER MOVERS!

I'm very impressed with everyone's motivation and the way we all jump in and encourage each other. I believe the two are definitely connected.

    TIP OF THE WEEK:
Some more ab exercises to strengthen core muscles because they stabilize your body according to Gavin MacMillan, founder and head trainer at Sport Science Lab in San Juan Capistrano, California, who designed this workout exclusively for SELF.

Dust off those exercise balls and blow them up. They also call for dumb bells in 3 and 5 lbs., but ONLY if you can safely handle them. I've several new exercises that I have to try out before recommending them though. So, just get used to the exercise ball by sitting on it with legs spread hip width apart, good posture, hands on thighs and bounce on it. Stop if you start leaning off or get winded.
Physical Therapist love using these balls for all sorts of balance exercises. If you haven't used yours in awhile or can borrow one to see if you like/ can use it to give these new 'borrowed' exercises a try next week.

Take care and God bless ya!

To think of it last year I had a MS hug around my waist for about a month and really toned my core muscles.
And looking back I think I became more stabilized, so I for one believe this tip will help balance issues.
And the better your balance is, the less energy you used up by walking.

    Goals made, plus!

I figured I needed to track me activity level and keep a log of it, so I created a excel sheet to log my daily activities.

Because of need and desire my workouts are more focused on being productive, then exercise equipment workouts. So I started logging both.

So I’m taking (time of task) x (exertion level) to get a score, then total them up.
For example freeing 15’ of gates from 3” of sleek was exertion level 4 x 2.5 hours with a score of 10, and going to work and walking dogs is 9 hours x exertion 1, with a score of 9.

My score this week was only 78, my goal for next week is 100.

So my THIS WEEK’S TIP is to create a log and count and track even non exercise equipment workouts.

And when temped by junk food, laziness, or whatever just think to yourself; I’m better then that!

          Goal made! (plus one) WooHoo!

Pooh, I had to chuckle when I was reading your tip. My nephew loves to sit on the exercise ball when watching tv or playing video games. And he can balance so well. I am not sure it would work for me but I do not balance well. Just pictureing him with his goofy smile makes me chuckle!

Yea-haa, made goal plus an extra 25 minutes on the bike on SuperBowl Sunday!! Thought I would pass on the half time entertainment and get some extra time on the bike. From what I heard about the half time show, glad I decided to exercise instead!

Now afew years ago when Bruce and the Band were the half time entertainment, I watched it and and put it on a tape so I can always watch in again and again.

Sounds like everyone is doing good meeting their goals lately. You all deserve a big HIGH-5!!!!

              Good job everyone!!!

ccsitter - Arthritis can really act up in the cold weather, so go easy on yourself... Can't believe how cold Texas has been!

Made my goal this week! Was busy everyday doing either exercises or as Sir Voor says, productive workouts. I don;t have a pedometer yet, so I counted steps on my walks - 1800 this week (not all at once) and that's just counting my walks. Didn't count shopping or errands, but am sure it would be lots more.

Made it out to the garden harvesting wintered over carrots and parsnips too!

My new goal is to "step it up" even more and thanks for the tip, Pooh. Gonna dust off my dumb bells!! Gotta get in shape for spring gardening.

              Have a great week all!

                  Hey everyone

CCsitter- sorry about your bout of arthritis - Texas is not supposed to be cold, darn it! Glad you were able to do some housework and chair exercises today!

Sounds like most everyone had a good week, most with extra.

                  I made goal plus, also.

Walked with cane 30 minutes 3X (inside apartment), rode stationary bike 30 minutes 3X, and arm cycle 5X.

Only got outside (went to the store) one day this week, so I wasn't as exhausted from going in and out of the cold, which was nice.

Have a good week, and keep moving the best you can!

                  Take care,

Will maybe do better next week? (Something is better than nothing.)

                      February; Week 2 Summary: 2/6-2/12
                      1. Goal 1: Made goal. Recorded pedometer stats.
                      2. Goal 2: Did not make goal. Exercised 5 out of 7 days, instead of 6 out of 7 days. Did better than January.
                      *Legs - 1 day
                      *Abs - 1 day
                      *Arms - 2 day
                      3. Goal 3: Did not make goal. Averaged 2,098 steps per day. Goal was 3,080 average. Was down from last month, which was about 2,800 steps per day.
                      4. Goal 4: Made goal. I recorded additional exercise.
Wanted to walk this week, but, motivation was low because of all the snow. Also, had thought about going to yoga to try it on Tuesday, but, that's the day that we got 17" of snow, and the media was advising everyone to stay home. Don't even know if they had it.
