    Burning sensations in feet/legs

I was recently told I most likely have MS based on a brain MRI (2 small lesions in ventricle area) and spine (lesion in thoracic, T-1 area) and started having symptoms 3 weeks ago. The worst for me is the burning sensations in both feet and the back of one leg. It ebbs and flows, but completely disappears at night when I lay down. Do you all know of a medication that can calm the burning and can be taken during the day when at work. I take gabapentin, 300mg at night and that helps, but I don't take it in the daybecause I get slightly dizzy/drowsy from it. Any ideas or feed back will be greatly appreciated!

Also, because I am 55 and male, I fear that I might have progressive MS. I have a Neuro that won't put me on a treatment plan until I have an LP that I don't want to have. If I have the symptoms and both MRis see lesions, what else is needed? I'm in the process of getting 2nd and 3rd opinions.

Hi, gabapentin is one of the best meds for nerve pain. You might try gradually increasing your dosage so that your body gets used to it and you can overcome the drowsy effects. You might also could try Lyrica or one of the anti-depressants like nortriptyline.

Unfortunately, it is rather difficult to get an MS diagnosis, even with brain lesions and symptoms. Doctors follow what is called the McDonald Criteria. (You can Google it and see what it involves.) MS is more a diagnosis of exclusion to rule out other things it might be (and there are many diseases and conditions which can mimic the symptoms of MS.)

If you haven't already, you may want to see an MS specialist, rather than just a general neuro.

Good luck and I hope you find some answers soon.

Joy is not the absence of suffering. It is the presence of God.
Cut aspartame from my diet in 2012 and my symptoms have slowly disappeared. Interesting!
Alpha Lipoic Acid (200 mg) + Acetyl L-carnitine (1,000 mg) = No more fatigue for me!

Gabapentin has been a life saver for me. I take 300mg 3x a day. The side effects wore off after a week or so.

          JFK43-

Welcome to the forum, but am sorry for the reason.

If your sensory symptoms, the burning feeling in you leg and feet, is temporary and ebbs and flows with your body temp, perhaps simply trying to stay cool will help some? I know my legs and feet tingle like crazy when I get overheated, but when I sit down, and thus cool down in the process, it is alleviated.

As far as medicines, I have never been on any, so I can't give any advice on them.

I hope you see those new opinions soon and they can be of help to you.
