New oral meds and insurance coverage

I realize this question may be premature since the first of the oral meds is not yet available for prescription, but I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything about what health insurance companies think of the new drugs and/or whether they will be inclined to cover them?

It seems to me that so many of these companies are reluctant to cover anything that is so new, but I'm starting to get the depression from the Rebif again, and I am looking forward to switching to something else. I'll do Tysabri, if necessary to begin with, but I still love the idea of an oral med.

If anyone has heard anything, I'd sure appreciate the info.

I can only tell you how it was for me when Ampyra came out. My copay for non-preferred meds was applied and it was $100 per supply (could be 30 or 90 days) the first month. The second month and ongoing the copay has been $33.33 per 30 day supply. I did not have any issues with them covering the medication just because it was new and I hope it is the same for the new oral meds when they are approved and available!
