    OA bladder update #2

At the recommendation of PCP, I made an appt w/neuro. That visit was yesterday. He said my OAB is definitely neurological & if not treated I run the risk of severe infections in addition to all the problems caused by interrupted/lack of sleep. I'm not sure how the infection part works since I'm ALWAYS moving liquid through, but that's what he said ...
He also said this needs to be addressed by a urologist and recommended someone to me. I'll call today for an appt. Yippee - another dr!!

I finally ended up going to a urologist, had an ultrasound right there in the office to determine level of retention. They said I was not retaining enough to be concerned at that time.

Went on to get a urodynamics test. Every time they filled my bladder it would spasm and leak. I realized I had been having spasms for awhile and didn't know what was going on.

I'm glad to have a urologist on my team of docs in case things get worse, I can go right to him and they will have a baseline test result to compare to any changes. Good luck with your appointment! It was easier than I expected, they were all very compassionate professionals.

Toomnyhats, I went to Dr. Sophie Fletcher in Scurlock Tower. She made me feel very comfortable and I will have the urodynamics done in Sept. I hope that she can get me the right help for my problems with my bladder. I don't know if you have a uro yet but my MS specialist referred me to her. She sees many MS patients. Good luck!

Coco, my neuro recommended Dr Christopher Smith with Baylor in the Medical Center. I'll see Dr. Smith after Labor Day. I really don't know what to expect but I'm hopeful he can help me. I'll even take another pill if it means getting a full night's sleep!

I know what you mean. I hope you get the help from Dr. Smith. If things don't work out with my dr. it is nice to have another name.

            What do you think?

I have reuctantly been thinking about starting Detrol to adress the sx. It cost quite a bit to become dependent on it. Will be watching to see what your neuros say

when i had hap ins, i was on detrol and loved it. i tried to get it refilled under medicaid and medicaid wont cover it cuz it was too expensive. medicaid offered another comparable drug but i have to find a uro that takes medicaid and get a new scrip. i have retention and over active bladder. i dont know the name of the other drug. i wanted to tell u detrol is AWESOME....

I had some bladder issues like OAB (only at night time) and tried Detrol first. It worked great for about 8 weeks and then stopped working. I then tried Vesicare for about 6 weeks. Then the urogyno took me off of it to see if my bladder "retrained itself" and sure enough it had. I haven't been on any OAB meds since the beginning of May and have only had a few nights where I got up alot. Most nights I only get up 1-2 times now instead of 8-10 times.

I have some other bladder issues and the doctor and I believe it's Interstitial Cystitis. But it's not bad enough yet to do any of the special tests for it. I just watch what I eat and am able to manage the symptoms pretty well that way.

I hope your testing goes well and they can determine exactly what is happening so that you can get some relief.

                  detrol

I took Detrol for a couple months (it's like $2 a pill), and then stopped. The good effects kept on. It was like once the cycle was broken, everything started working again.
