    Trip to ER Today

Last year, I started having bad bouts of diarrhea to constipation back and forth along with bad gas pains that came and went but were pretty painful.

I have been having these problems about once a month or so. This morning, I was woken up out of my sleep at 5am because the pain was so excruciating. I started screaming. The pain came in waves and I was able to get a few minutes break in between but it was unbearable. I was doubled over for a good hour so my husband called an ambulance.

On the way to the hospital, I started screaming again. The pain was SOOOO bad, so bad that it exhausted me. I got to the hospital and was still screaming because the waves of pain started becoming more frequent and I was getting less breaks in between and the pain just kept on getting worse. They kept saying they couldn't give me anything until I saw the doctor. After me screaming that I wanted to go to another hospital, they finally came in and shot me up with a large amount of dilaudin (sp?)

I did not experience a head rush, it went right to the area of pain, my lower lower abdomen on the left and calmed it down within a few minutes along with something for nausea. A little while later, Toridol rid of the last bit of pain.

They did a CT scan and found inflammation in my colon so they gave me Cipro (an antibiotic) and gave me some pain meds telling me to follow up with a GI. When I asked the doctor what it could be, he said he didn't know, it could be a few things but he thinks maybe Colitis.

I never EVER want to go through that again. The pain was so unbearable that I thought I was going to be sick. I was even foaming at the mouth from hyperventilating myself. I'm still really shaken up by how unbelievably painful that was.

    Thanks for listening!

Oh my dear..how the heck are you NOW??

Sorry for that mess. I too get a combo of gastro changes. Can manage most of the time. But when I was IN the hospital, I became SOOO constipated (maybe the IVSM)?
Then as I was nearing my time to leave.. it was diar...

Get home and was bloated and uncomfortable up to my EARS~!!! I was blowing UP!!!!!

Then came more bouts of the "runs"..with the most excruciating pain just prior to going. I was afraid to eat.

Made an appt with my gastro doc who by the time I saw him..it all went away. He said it could be MS related as things slow down. Take Miralax..or gentle meds OTC.

Its infrequent..but definitely problems with colon. I do have diverticulosis via my colonoscopy. You need to eat right and avoid processed, sugary foods. I don't ..then I pay.

Glad you got some improvement. Antibiotics not enough. Your intestines needs to continue to heal and prevent this in future. So.. my dear one, see that GASTRO specialist. ok?

      Warmly, Jan

        Hello Jamilea

I feel sorry for you that you had to go through that.

Like mjan said make sure you go to the gi doctor.. if you do have colitis, you have to keep it under control.

Hope you get relief while you wait to see the doctor.

Thanks everyone for the words of support (HUG)

I will get an appointment with a GI specialist. To be honest with you, I don't think the people in the ER understand that my screaming before the pain shot was real. It felt like my stomach was exploding. I've had an abcessed tooth, an open stomach surgery because a 6cm cyst ruptured and I was bleeding internally and had staples in my stomach, I've dropped a hatchet on my ankle just messing around.

The pain I felt yesterday morning that woke me out of my sleep was 10 times greater than any of those things I mentioned above I'm so afraid that it will happen again!
