need a new MS specialist Tn/Ky area

I live in southern Ky and would like to see a specialist in either the Louisville area or Nashville or within 3 hours of here. I have been going to UK medical ctr in Lexington and felt comfortable with the man that diagnosed me, but in the past 2 years since I've been seeing him he has had increasing problems. He broke his hip shortly after he diagnosed me and since then has not only seemed physically frail, but seems like he is losing it. today's visit was a diaster. He couldn't remember anything about me, what he'd tried in the past, etc. He actually seemed befuddled and was visibly frustrated when I asked him a few questions. What was most shocking is that he was wearing 2 ties. He wasn't even dressed correctly. I have noticed in the past year that the nurses and office staff kind of cover for him. I don't feel comfortable anymore and feel I need to find someone else. Can someone recommend a dr in Nashville or Louisville. I'd appreciate it.

    Nashville

    Hi,
I am in the Nashville area and I was going to the Vanderbilt MS Clinic in Nashville. You will need your current doctor to refer you to them even if your insurance doesn't require referral. Any doctor can do the referral, they just won't let you call them out of the blue.
I have since had my MS declared service-connected so I switched to the VA for all healthcare for cost reasons. I still see alot of Vanderbilt doctors, because Vanderbilt and the VA are next door to each other. I don't see an MS specialist but the neuros I do see are willing and able to call my old doctor or even look up my records from Vanderbilt if they are Vanderbilt doctors.
    Good luck

      Vanderbilt, definitely.

I work at Vanderbilt and we have an excellent MS center. You should give them a try. I was working here when I was diagnosed. They diagnosed me quickly and got me on the right meds. I'm so thankful to have this clinic. Good luck!

        hi! how's KY?
we moved to So. IL Dec. 2008. still miss KY, not that i don't love it here. but we raised our girls in So. Ky, Scottsville (near BOwling Green).
not sure where you're at - Vandy MS clinic is exc. 'cept 1 dr. there has AWFUL bedside manner (contact me if you want).
i was dx'd by Dr. Samuel Hunter at st. Thomas. He's the best if you ask me! but both are top notch places.
depending on where you're at or your insurance, my last neuro was Dr. Randy Cox in Owensboro, KY. not a well known place to go to neuro, but he was absolutely the best neuro in KY!
he's the one who found a brain tumor that had doubled that aforementioned Vandy dr. missed. Dr. Eggers did my surgery & according to uncle who is retired orthopeadic (sp) surgeon Eggers is the best in the state. i agree, since surgery went so well, and healed up in record time.
feel free to email me if you want more details.
hope you find the right doctor for you. there's good ones out there, just have to find them.
        God bless ya!

          Hmmmm.

I think I may know the doctor you are referring to. And, I think he might be my doc. Vandy is great. But, if it's the same doc I'm thinking of, he kinda leaves you hanging. I always feel like he doesn't believe me when I tell him about my pain or concerns. I was looking at my chart one day, and he said most of my issues seemed "subjective" to him. Guess he didn't remember I have access to my records. I do highly recommend Vandy, though.

            Dr. Samuel Hunter

I see Dr. Hunter in Franklin, TN. He is the absolute best. He is only accepting a couple of insurances right now....so it may be out of pocket for you.

              thanks

Thanks so much. I see my PCP on Wednesday and will see who she thinks I should be referred to. I've heard such great things about Dr. Cox and Dr. Hunter.
