    This isn't working!

I had cataract surgery last Thursday. Maybe I'm just impatient, but my eyes are not working together very well! The new lens is for distance vision, but I wish they had made it for near vision, as I spend a lot more time on my computer than I do outside!

My other eye is very nearsighted, and I just can't seem to get them to work together. When I'm typing on my computer, I have to keep my "new" eye closed, and my bad eye is getting strained because of it.

Even with distance vision, they're not coordinating, even when I'm wearing my glass (which I popped the lens out of for the eye I had surgery on because I didn't need the distance part of it. I should get a new lens for reading in another week.)

It's just so frustrating!!! I'm wondering if it's because I have convergence problems anyway, and this surgery just made it worse. I feel like I'm cross-eyed and seeing double most of the time. I really need my eyes to work! I have the week off, but my school start back next Monday, and I have to get my online class components ready. I also have to be able to drive!

Has anyone else had cataract surgery? Did it take awhile for your eyes to adjust? How long did it take? Help! Please! (Before I drive myself nuts!)

i've not had cataract surgery, but was with my dad when he did. it did take awhile to adjust to it. plus he still had to get reading glasses to help it.
i assume you've been doing all the eye drops faithfully. if you've done everything you're suppose to or even if not, i strongly encourage you to call your dr. & see what they suggest.

it doesn't seem like he had that much trouble, though of course, everyone is different.

will be praying it clears up soon. first days of school are stressful enough without eye problems!

take care & God bless ya!

I'm going to have to because the difference is really noticeable, but I can't get it done until December, when I have time off from work again. Hopefully they'll start working right soon, because this is just driving me batty!

Poohb3ar, I'll go ahead and call my doctor, like you suggested. I've been using my eye drops as directed, and the other day, had to use them every two hours per the on-call ophthalmologist because I was having a problem with irritation and cloudiness. That's cleared up, but this not being able to see right is worrying me. I have to be able to see. (I almost wish I hadn't had this done!)

I can feel your frustruation..rightly so.
But is it just adjustment time or do you feel this is something else?

And try not to rush ahead too much. You could feel a whole lot differently by next week. I know, school is on your mind..but try really hard to just stick with today..and..maybe not so much on computer until your poor eyes have time to heal and adjust some more.

I deliberately look for your posts.. know that my friend,

Thanks, Jan. I'm not sure that this is just a normal adjustment or not. My mother-in-law had cataract surgery, as did a friend of mine, and neither of them had the problem I'm having. I think maybe it's because of my warped brain. I have convergence problems anyway, and this surgery is just throwing everything, including my balance, off.

I'm afraid to try to drive, so I haven't been out since my son took me to breakfast with my dad last Saturday. I am going to try it on the back roads tomorrow. I've got to get back to normal, as I have to go back to work on Monday!

I have a follow-up appointment on Tuesday, so hopefully things will be better by then. I also called and left a message for the ophthalmologist, so we'll see what he says.

Oh dear.. I KNOW what would lessen your frustruation=a diagnosis!!!! But.. in the meantime..REST YOUR EYESIGHT. Since your surgery reaction is NOT typical..maybe you're over working your eyes too much?
              Could that be?

And yes be careful driving. If you end up in an accident you can be given criminal charges. Did you call about getting the video EEG yet? These awful frustrating signs will ALL ADD UP..I am convinced!!

Lots to deal with.. trust me I know. I was slammed with 2 rare disorders along with 3 other NEW diagnoses all at once. Whew.. now its all behind me..and life just goes on.

My ophthalmologist's office called back, and I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon, so we'll see what's up. (Luckily, it's just right up the road from me, so just a very short drive.)

I have an appointment with my new neurologist on Sept. 6, so we'll see what he says about everything. Hopefully having a new set of eyes looking at all the tests and symptoms might help with the diagnosis. I sure hope so anyway.

                Thanks and hugs!

My Dad had a similar problem following cataract surgery. (He does not have MS though. He went to a retina specialist who ordered a prism for him which cleared up the problem immediately. Not exactly sure of the explanation but bring that up tomorrow in the appointment because the retina specialist could not believe that the opthamologist did not try that after he had problems so they might not come up with that solution. I may be spelling prism wrong also. Good Luck.
